When telly was great!

Warning: Spoilers
Ok, a slight exaggeration perhaps! Sadly unavailable to stream at the moment (as far as I can tell), this classic episode played a small part in affecting my world view, at least insofar as the death penalty. Oddly, I was convinced I had seen it circa 1970 and wrote to Empire magazine about it. The magazine replied, informing me it dated from 1985. According to this esteemed site, the date is given as 1977. It probably looks pretty creaky today and the acting may seem hammy BUT, when the writer is assigned a 'temporary' new cell and given new clothing one suspects the worst. The dread builds to the execution scene and the false end, where the head warden tells him that the whole thing had been done for the writer's benefit...the relief was palpable. The execution hood is pulled from his face and.... Well I guess I've rather spoiled things. Sorry everyone! A real classic and I'd like to thank Chris Mentiply on Facebook for tracking the episode down/

THE FINAL CHAPTER - QUINN MARTIN.

I've been looking for over 12 years to find a copy of this. I would pay to see it. I heard so much about it from my parents, but as hard as I try I can't find it. It would make my year to find a way to watch this. I would greatly appreciate any leads from anyone about this.

I so wish I could find this episode to watch again. Probably the best tv show I've ever watched. Only a short programme but a super watch.

Such a twist at the end too. I tell lots of people about this episode, and so wish I could show them.

Like a previous review, I'd pay money to get hold of a copy of this one.

From start to finish, you are hooked. So realistic. Good acting, and a great story about a journalist who wants to know what it's like to be on death row.

One by one, things happen (some deliberately) which makes the journalist believe he is actually on death row. To the point that he is taken to the electric chair, to be executed. People congregate in the execution room to witness the ex execution. And at the last moment the hood it put over his head. Just as they are about to flick the switch, the lights are switched on, the hood removed.

Only ti find the journalist has died of a heart attack!!!

What a twist. I was about 16 at the time in the mid 1970s. And this episode has stuck in my mind ever since.

If anyone knows where I can get a copy, please please let me know,

Inchaines, did you manage to track this down online anywhere? I'd love to see this again 🙏 I watched this one night years ago with my dad (now sadly departed) he went to bed before it ended and I woke him up to tell him how it had ended, it frightened the life out of me (if it really DID air in 1977, I'd have been 9 years old, but knowing where we lived at the time, it would've been later than 1978 as we moved house when I was 10) I'm sure I'd find it a bit less worrying watching it now, being 55, much as I was scared to death watching 'Don't be afraid of the dark' many years ago, watching since had less impact on me, and didn't bother my 2 young boys in the slightest.
