Storyline

Scotland Yard Commander Clare Blake is called back from holiday to investigate the apparent murder of Father Thomas Martin who was stabbed 29 times in his church. He was well respected in the community and had been instrumental in calming the local community after serious rioting some 5 years before. Thugs - reformed or otherwise -constantly surrounded him as he also ran a drop in center and a boxing club. There are rumors of child abuse as Father Thomas seemed to spend an inordinate amount of time with children. The police initially focus on Denny Wade, an ex-con who had stabbed his wife over 50 times but the solution is found in events that occurred before the riots even took place. Written by garykmcd

procedural a bit slow
6 March 2016 | by See all my reviews

Father Thomas Martin is found brutally stabbed in his church. He used boxing to reform local thugs and bring calm to the community which rioted years before. Police was not welcomed in the estates back then. Commander Clare Blake leads the investigation. Denny Wade is an early suspect after serving ten years for killing his wife. Jack Bannerman is a local leader and a thug during the riots. Jimmy Bannerman is his son following his boxing father. DCI Doug James reveals that he was involved in a deadly riot incident.

After turning the show into a procedural, it continues to be somewhat slow. The police team doesn't have the earlier personalities. It's only Blake and Doug James that really stands out with their own identities. Jack Bannerman seems a little fake as the reformed thug. It would be more interesting for him to be in a suit and tie. Jimmy is kind of interesting. There is maybe enough material for 2/3 of the running time.
