Mackenzie is ordered to penetrate deep into Mexico to arrest a disgraced American general who is gathering an army to overthrow the Mexican government. With only four other volunteers, Mackenzie's small group must cross 340 miles of waterless desert, avoiding both the Mescalero Apaches and the Federales, capture the renegade, then return to the United States with their prisoner to stand trial. Failure to accomplish their mission could lead to another war between the U.S. and Mexico.
