A French black man named "Black" goes to Dakar looking for an easy bank heist
"Black" is a movie mixture of mirth, mobs, murder, myth and magic. I doubt if you've ever seen anything quite like it, whether situated in Dakar or anywhere else.
It has a number of things going for it that make for good entertainment, not to be taken too seriously. The setting in Dakar is very enjoyable. The two leads are a robber, MC Jean Gab'1, and a policewoman, Carole Karemera. They deliver a lot of repartee and tension. Gab'1's character has a real sense of humor and confidence in every situation. He can poke fun at himself too. Karemera is never a pushover, even under the influence of the love bug.
Gab'1 is out to rob a bank of diamonds. On the day of the heist, everything goes wrong, plus there is competition from two other gangs. One of these gangs brings in the element of myth, magic or witchcraft, via a kind of voodoo woman who has a thing for snakes and her snake man.
It's mainly an action movie with abundant danger and narrow escapes. But it's on the novel side due to the way that the main character becomes something of an object of humor while still being a very rugged and muscular he-man.
