No. Hunger based on the true story of the hunger strike taken on by Irish Republic Army (IRA) protester, Bobby Sands. The screenplay was written by English artist Steven McQueen and Irish playwright Enda Walsh.

Bobby Sands' actions followed a long-standing dispute between Unionist Protestants and Nationalist Catholics in Northern Ireland. Unionists wished to preserve the link between Ireland and Britain, whereas the Nationalists, typified by IRA protesters like Bobby Sands, wanted Northern Ireland to be transferred to the Republic of Ireland. In 1981, Sands took on a hunger strike (and eventually died at the age of 27) in order to protest the treatment of Nationalist captives by the British Army. Sands died after a 66 day hunger strike.
