A number of different people from Turkey go to Britain for a better life, to study, etc. Leaving behind poverty or lack of opportunity in Turkey is the main motive. Another accidentally shoots someone in a street scuffle and decides to leave the country for safety. But Britain, "the island of hope", is more an island of despair for them. One character is reduced to prostitution, another becomes a cocaine addict - nobody really turns the corner though not all meet with horrible fates. Almost a warning against emigrating to Britain.
Apparently this is the first film of its director, Mustafa Kara, who is reported to have found London "frightening" when he went there to shoot scenes for this film. It shows. Most of the British characters in this are quite horrible, including xenophobic football fans, a middle-class woman who turns nasty when her lesbian advances are rejected, a cocaine addict...
