New Year's Eve fun: Share your favorite film and TV drunk scenes

31 December 2009 2:00 PM, PST | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

The ball is set to drop in just a matter of hours, PopWatchers! So I can only imagine that more than a few of you are preparing to channel your inner Frank the Tanks this holiday. (Now I believe it is my duty to warn you that streaking will probably be looked down upon by your respective towns, as well as your respective sober selves when you see the inevitable embarrassing pics.) And as I begin to line up my own champagne and wine bottles to celebrate the new year, I'm reminded of those in film and on TV who willingly put themselves in humiliating, »

Two New Clips from Michael Cera's 'Youth in Revolt'

29 December 2009 8:30 PM, PST | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

It was pushed from late October to early January, and at the time, I thought it was probably a bad move for The Weinstein Company. However, as trailers and commercials and now clips from Youth in Revolt have had more time and room to breathe, and now I think it probably has more recognition with potential opening weekend crowds.

I guess the studio is probably hoping for something along the lines of Michael Cera's Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, which made about $35 million in the fall of 2008 against a very manageable budget. And it was only in theaters for two months, so that's not a bad total at all. An advantage it might have - emphasis on might - is that it's a comedy that aims younger than most of the other movies in theaters right now, and that includes some of the early January releases, too. Can it win on January 8th? »

What gets an R-Rating? It's complicated...

29 December 2009 9:37 AM, PST | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Bodies pile up like dirty socks in the PG-13 Avatar, but Nancy Meyers' classy comedy It's Complicated got an R-rating from the MPAA. What gives? According to the New York Times, board members were uneasy about a sequence in which Meryl Streep, Steve Martin, and Alec Baldwin smoke marijuana at a party with no negative consequences. Seems a little strange to us, since plenty of other movies have shown similar illegal activities without tragic ends. Here's a look at a few highlights (sorry, couldn't resist). 21 December 2009 3:30 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

This has been a bad holiday season for untimely deaths around Hollywood, and none have been more unexpected than actress Brittany Murphy's on Sunday. Alyssa Milano, Peter Facinelli, Paris Hilton and virtually everyone else with a Twitter account associated with the entertainment industry has something to say about Murphy, and there's a rundown below.

The other big nationwide news of the past weekend has been the massive snowstorm pounding the East Coast. "Twilight" actress Christian Serratos was one of those who had her travel plans derailed by the frozen precipitation dump, on Washington, D.C. You can find those posts after jump along with Fred Durst's "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" clan name and Neil Gaiman's undead lawn ornament. It's in the Twitter-Wood report for December 21, 2009. Brittany Murphy Tweets From Peter Facinelli, Paris Hilton And Others In Another Twitter-Wood Early Edition

21 December 2009 2:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Earlier today, we brought you an early edition of Twitter-Wood packed chock-full of celebrity praise for James Cameron's sci-fi epic, "Avatar." It's a much more tragic set of circumstances that brings me back to you with another Twitter-Wood early edition.

"Clueless" star Brittany Murphy left us suddenly over the weekend, the victim of a heart attack at the too-young age of 32. The breaking news resulted in an outpouring of grief and sympathy for Murphy's family from around the celebrity Twittersphere. I'll let the people who knew her take it from here...

@ParisHilton So sad to hear about Brittany Murphy, such a tragedy. She was such a beautiful, funny and sweet girl. My heart goes out to her family.

18 December 2009 3:30 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

This was a rough week for memorial tweets, with Tisha Taylor Murphy and Roy Disney's passings both making headlines. More condolences showed up today for "Alien" screenwriter Dan O'Bannon and Bengals wide received Chris Henry, who both had their share of fans in our feed.

Following up on Jason Reitman's Olympic Torch tweets from the week, posted a much better photo today and got some moral support from Roger Ebert. You can check that out below, along with a shot of "New Moon" actor Alex Meraz's new t-shirt, two actresses who are not ashamed of their Wiis. It's all retweeted in the Twitter-Wood report for December 18, 2009.

Roy Disney, 'Avatar' And Copenhagen In Today's Twitter-Wood

16 December 2009 4:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Roy Disney's death today was big news in Twitter-Wood, where a lot of folks have been affected by his work and commitment to animation over the course of their careers. It's certainly appropriate that "Toy Story 3" director Lee Unkrich was among the first to post his condolences.

And speaking of animation, Danny DeVito made it onto the guest list for the "Avatar" premiere tonight, and took a picture of his excitable foot to prove it. His "Twins" co-star Arnold Schwarzenegger posted

pic, too, from over in Copenhagen where he's meeting with folks for the U.N. Climate Summit. You can click through all of those tweets after the jump where you'll also find out who may have cut actress Jenna Stern off and which musician/director is working on a new FunnyorDie.com sketch. Part 4: From Michael Cera to Frank Black

Michael Cera Deluding awkward indie boys into thinking they'd get the girl since 2003

Before Michael Cera starred in mega-hits Juno and Superbad, the typical star of a Us teen movie was more likely to be the wonderfully horrible Steve Stifler from American Pie. Since Cera broke out from Arrested Development, lead teen males are now the types who wear newish Sonic Youth T-shirts, stare at their tennis shoes while muttering about Zooey Deschanel and pack as much charm as a destitute leprechaun. At first, Cera's emergence was a huge victory for the geek: 15-year-old Decemberists fans finally had a hero just like them! But then he went and made Year Zero, Nick And Norah's Infinite Playlist and Paper Heart and we went back to our working on our poetry.

Tom Hanks, Jar Jar Binks And Another 'Twilight' Star Gets Naked In Today's Twitter-Wood

For those of you following the Edi Gathegi and Christian Serratos' exchanges of the last few days, there are two more to share today, including a photo proving that the two "New Moon" performers were able to connect. Gathegi may have even had to naked for the occasion, according to Serratos' account, but don't worry. The picture is totally Sfw.

Tom Hanks stepped into the recording studio for "Toy Story 3," meanwhile, and the film's diligent director Lee Unkrich documented their their session. The World Cup, Umaga And 'New Moon' Nevernudes In Today's Twitter-Wood

4 December 2009 3:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Professional wrestling fans of Twitter-Wood turned out today with good vibes for former WWE star Umaga, who was reported to be in serious condition for unknown reasons at a Houston hospital today. Jeff Katz was among them, and I echo his sentiments.

Elsewhere in the Twitterverse, Edgar Wright finished up his director's cut of "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World." Jason Reitman thanked him for not competing with "Up in the Air," and writer Bryan Lee O'Malley congratulated him on the milestone. Director Kyle Newman was somewhat less congratulatory, meanwhile, in his tweet-outs to England looking ahead to the World Cup. Check out those tweets after the jump along with Kat Dennings' nevernude diagnosis of the "New Moon" werewolves, an "Eclipse" actor hanging out with David Caruso and much more in the Twitter-Wood report for December 4, 2009.

Grammy Nominations, Journey And 'Twilight' Glitter In Today's Twitter-Wood

3 December 2009 4:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

It's always great to see "Twilight" cast members getting along off-screen, and there were a couple of shout-outs bouncing around the Twitter-Wood feed today. Edi Gathegi wished Christian Serratos could be with him on a plane ride, but he had to settle for her advice on candy shenanigans. Elsewhere, Tinsel Korey sought Chaske Spencer's glitter skills in some Advent calendar construction.

In non-"Twilight" tweets "I'm on a Boat" seems to be a popular pick among the Grammy nominations this year, and Seth Meyers was among the first to back it. Michael McKean, meanwhile, will be pulling for Bela Fleck and Loudon Wainwright. Former "Family Ties" mom Meredith Baxter attracted quite a few tweets when she came out on the "Today Show" this morning. Seth Meyers and Steve Agee, among others, took notice while a few others were still occupied with Tiger Woods.

Kevin Smith has been fielding posts about the title of his movie "A Couple of Dicks," which is getting a new, yet-to-be-determined title. I've included one of his tweets on the subject after the jump along with a former president introducing Jason Reitman's new film, Arnold Schwarzenegger's run-in with George Lucas and Paris Hilton's birthday message to Britney Spears. Scenes We Love: Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist

26 November 2009 2:02 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

In an attempt to spotlight a scene related to post-Thanksgiving leftovers, I'd like to share a favorite little moment from Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. No, the teen rom-com doesn't directly connect to the holiday in any way, but there is this scene starring a turkey sandwich. And my brain and stomach being the odd collaborators that they are have deemed it appropriate, even if the sandwich is made of cold cuts and not turkey carved from a juicy, roasted whole bird.

Here's one reason it makes sense to my personal post-Thanksgiving activities: while many of you will be braving the crowds at the multiplex following your feast, I'll be at the bar -- hopefully one where I can dance some of the stuffing away -- and at last call, I'll tipsily head home and then stack some leftovers between two slices of bread and enjoy the first of many post-holiday turkey sandwiches. »

Kat Dennings' 'Thor' Role Revealed

25 November 2009 8:44 AM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

Earlier this week, Natalie Portman exclusively revealed to MTV News that "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist" actress Kat Dennings had joined the cast of “Thor.” After a few days of speculation, we finally know which character Dennings will portray on the big screen.

According to Variety, Dennings will play Darcy, a coworker of Portman’s Jane Foster. While earlier reports hinted that Jane Foster would be “retooled” for this adaptation, it seems safe to assume that both Jane and Darcy will be in the medical profession, given the history of “Thor” in Marvel comics.

Thor” will be the second superhero-related film for Dennings following the upcoming

"Defendor" with Woody Harrelson. Last month, Dennings expressed her desire to appear in an adaptation of Tim Seeley's "Hack/Slash."

It's interesting to note that the Variety report describes the story as focusing on a “partly disabled med student who discovers his Norse god alter ego, »

Kat Dennings Among Cast for 'Thor'

Following several actors who have been previously confirmed to join "Thor", Kat Dennings also has a part in the film. The news was first spilled by the film's star Natalie Portman when she was interviewed by MTV Splash Page. "Well I'm really excited. Kat Dennings is going to be in it with me and she's a good friend and an amazing actress, so I'm looking forward to that," the depicter of Thor's first love Jane Foster said.

Dennings' inclusion in the cast ensemble for the film was later confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter. However, there has been no word on what character that will be played by the 23-year-old beauty as the site claimed Marvel Studio keeps a closed lid on her role.

Dennings is perhaps best known for her role as Norah Silverberg in "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist", which aided her to receive nomination as Breakthrough Performance Female at 2009 MTV Movie Awards. »
