Michael Apted, Thomas Schlamme Head Directors Guild Negotiations

18 February 2016 1:24 PM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

The Directors Guild of America has tapped secretary-treasurer Michael Apted and third VP Thomas Schlamme as co-chairs of its negotiating committee for the successor deal to its master contract.

The current deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers expires on June 30, 2017. No start date has been set for the contract talks, but they are likely to launch before the end of the year.

Apted and Schlamme chaired the committee in 2013 when the current contract was negotiated. The DGA national board approved the appointments at its board meeting on Feb. 7.

“As a key part of our extensive preparation, we have asked two of our most experienced feature and television leaders, Michael Apted and Thomas Schlamme, to once again lead our negotiations and serve as co-chairs,” said DGA president Paris Barclay. “Michael and Tommy, who successfully were co-chairs in 2013, have graciously accepted. We are incredibly fortunate to have the benefit of their experience. »

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair set to reboot the franchise

13 January 2016 10:00 PM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

The next film in the Narnia franchise, The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Silver Chair, the fourth in the series, will reboot the franchise and will have a new director and new cast, so says producer Mark Gordon.

Speaking with Collider, Gordon said that we could see the film start shooting very soon.

“We’re hoping to be able to make the movie very shortly,” states Gordon. “We’re very excited about it.”

David Magee, who wrote the Academy Award-winning Life Of Pi, has scripted The Silver Chair. Despite the fact that the movie features Eustace Scrubb, played by Will Poulter in the last movie, The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader, it seems that Gordon and co. are going with a completely new cast, despite Poulter’s star shining brighter than it has ever been (he appears in this weekend’s big opener, The Revenant).

'The Silver Chair' Will Completely Reboot 'Narnia' Franchise

13 January 2016 4:07 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Just over 10 years ago, The Chronicles of Narnia franchise launched with the big screen adventure The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, which paved the way for 2008's The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian and 2010's The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of The Dawn Treader. It's been over two years since we heard anything about the fourth installment, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair, with a December 2013 report that Life of Pi writer David Magee came aboard to write the script. Today we have a new update from producer Mark Gordon, who reveals that The Silver Chair will reboot the franchise entirely. Here's what he had to say, when asked if any characters from the first three movies would be involved.

"We're hoping to be able to make the movie very shortly. We're very excited about it. No, it's all going to be a brand new franchise. »

'The Chronicles Of Narnia' Franchise To Get Rebooted With 'The Silver Chair'

13 January 2016 7:34 AM, PST | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

After the release of "The Chronicles Of Narnia: Voyage Of The Dawn Treader" in 2010, there was some question of where the franchise might go next. In 2011, Walden Media honcho Michael Flaherty revealed he was aiming to negotiate with Fox and C.S. Lewis' estate to get the rights to "The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew," which is more of a prequel story, rather than a direct follow-up to 'Dawn Treader.' That never happened, and a couple of years later, it was announced that "The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Silver Chair" would be next. That movie also never really materialized, but it seems the plan is still there to bring it to the big screen.  Speaking at the Television Critics Association press tour, producer Mark Gordon told Collider, "We’re hoping to be able to make the movie very shortly." However, they will be starting everything over from scratch, »

Producer says The Silver Chair will reboot Chronicles of Narnia franchise

13 January 2016 5:19 AM, PST | JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news »

It's been a little over five years since the release of The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader, and besides the hiring of Life Of Pi writer David Magee to script The Silver Chair, there hasn't been much movement on the planned fourth installment in the film series. Back in 2013, The C.S. Lewis Company joined forces with The Mark Gordon Company to develop the next sequel, and... Read More »
