Pretty inane, though mindlessly watchable sequel
8 March 2008 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

I watched this right after the first sequel but did not have as good a time. I found considerable flaws here. The direction has little flair and the script was, for the first half of the film, full of redundancy, inanity and silliness. The film gets quite interesting for a while, then falls to ground for a dumb ending. The acting is mostly nondescript apart from the main two girls and the characters often quite unlikeable. For all this, the film isn't totally useless. There are some fun, if often stupid kills, the stupidity of the characters is amusing and so is the way that much of the first half is a grimly predictable daft supernatural teenager killer film, even though the first two were quite good, well plotted scare films. The second half livens things up and even gets quite nifty. There is some fun gore and entertaining effects which are quite a surprise, but sadly the effects ruin the climax. If the ending were better, this film, despite being quite bad, would be a six out of ten. It does have some good ideas, some fun scenes, and even some touching ones, and the storyline itself is solid and somewhat poignant, its just that the execution makes this end up being a dimmer and far more uneven than average hop on the Japanese horror train. P.S. watch out for the name Jean Rollin randomly popping up
