Canadian multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Loreena McKennitt is a unique artist. Even at the age of nearly fifty the fiery redhead looks like an angel, and she certainly sings like one. This concert, recorded at a famous venue in Spain, sees her ethereal voice supplemented by a troupe of world class musicians with the lady herself sitting at the piano and harp.
The two outstanding tracks from this event are without doubt "The Bonny Swans" and "The Mummers' Dance". The former is her adaptation of an ancient murder ballad; the latter, a McKennitt original.
The Twentieth Century saw a veritable explosion of musical talent on both sides of the Atlantic, but as with Blackmore's Night, there is something very special about the combination of ancient melodies and modern instrumentations as presented here.
