Did You Know?

The show tune Emily puts on in the car is "Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin'" from the musical "Oklahoma!". The plot of the musical has subtle similarities to the Gilmore Girls. The story revolves around a woman, Laurey, who has to decide between two men (similar to Lorelai deciding between Luke and Christopher). The musical also features a fund-raising auction where the ladies make lunch baskets for the men to bid on to win the company of the lady for lunch (a so-called "box social"). The same kind of auction was featured in the episode "A-Tisket, A-Tasket" (Season 2, episode 13), where Jess out-bid Dean for Rory's lunch basket. See more »

Emily: He's just become a pain in the you-know-what.
Lorelai: Nose? Ear?
Emily: Would it really please you to hear me say ass ?
Lorelai: You know, I wasn't sure. But yes, it would!
