It was pretty good

I agree. I enjoyed the movie myself. I knew vaguely who had made the film since I was invited by a friend of mine whose niece knows them personally. It was kinda cool. I got a bit of the back story on the movie. So I wasn't completely oblivious as to what the movie was about. I am a fan of poker and have actually played now maybe not regularly but often enough for the past 15 years. I was pleased with the way they played the game. It was different than watching those reality shows out there now with all the celebrities playing and whatnot, but it tied in quite well with the story. And the acting was quite good all around. I liked the style of it as well. The transition from color to black and white at certain parts of the film was a very neat idea that set the ambiance quite well. And the dialogue was quite clever and natural feeling. I think I heard that it was mainly improvised but I can't recall if I heard that as a fact or not.

Shut Up And Deal

This is an intelligent, humorous comment on life among the twenty-somethings, a generation which struggles to reject the shallowness of their parents' lives yet embraces all of the luxuries that lifestyle offers. It's also a very funny commentary on the differences between the genders. Too bad this film is not available to everyone ... YET. The acting is spontaneous, funny, and real. For those who love the game of poker, it's fascinating to watch as the hands unfold. The characters, as the evening evolves, begin to show their true selves, and it is hilarious to see the layers peel away. The music is not simply background - it emphasizes the relationships and the underlying themes in a supportive, complementary way. I loved this film.
