Mike Franks and Gibbs (8,8/10)
4 December 2016 | by (Canada) – See all my reviews

Mike Franks really shined in this episode. We didn't get to know him much but now I feel like we know him a lot better than before. What really made this episode great was the mix of an insane case and lots of character development. The case was pretty crazy, you can tell by the summary: a marine supposedly frozen to death wakes up on Ducky's interrogation table. Even crazier, this marine is Mike Frank's son. This case was pretty great because there were many suspects and it really kept me guessing until the end, because the banker guy (sorry don't remember his name) seemed like the sort of guy who was involved but not the actual killer. Plus he keeps denying it so that reinforces my point. When I found out it was actually him, I was very surprised. It's like the episode "Driven" earlier this season that keeps you guessing until the very end. Mike Franks seems like the kind of guy who would snap like that but I now realize that he trained Gibbs and Gibbs (almost) never snaps.

This episode showed us a lot of character development because we got to see a lot of discussions between Gibbs and Franks which was great because when the boss' boss is present you know it's going to be rather heated or hilarious and in this case it was both. We also got to see Mike's soft side with his son in the hospital. They were definitely the highlight of this episode even though we did get a bit of character development with DiNozzo who got to spend time with Jeanne. It didn't steal the show but it has a nice continuity into the next episode (Grace Period). Gibbs and Franks are the stars here.

There was also a great ending, where Franks saves his son's girlfriend and we get a nice conversation with him and Gibbs.

Ziva and Duck just seemed to be there but that doesn't really affect the episode. It was a great one and I recommend it.
