Connor's friend is infected by a prehistoric parasite
25 April 2016 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

After the events of the previous episode Helen Cutter is in custody but refuses to answer and questions about the anomalies until her husband is present. When he arrives she tells him that a new anomaly will open soon allowing sabre-toothed cats to enter London. Meanwhile Conner has been kicked out of his flat and has turned up at Abby's hoping to sleep on her couch; his friends, Tom and Duncan, plant a tracking device on him hoping to discover his secret. Helen takes the team to the site of the anomaly but there are no signs of any big cats… just a number apparently harmless dodos. In the confusion Helen runs through the anomaly; she is pursued but her chasers find a place with dozens of anomalies and no way of knowing which she went through. The team shoo the dodos back through but there a couple of problems; one has swallowed the tracker and been caught by Connor's friends and another has died due to a particularly unpleasant parasite. It isn't long before Tom is bitten and infected; the team are looking for him hoping to find him before he can pass it on to anybody else.

This was a solid episode; Helen's story continues nicely and since she has escaped it remains a mystery how she can track the anomalies; hopefully we'll learn more in future episodes. The dodos were rather fun and lull us into thinking they pose no real threat… until we learn they are infected by parasites. The effect of the parasite is fairly scary and thankfully the story avoided a cop-out ending. Connor's friends are probably the series' most irritating characters but having one of them infected at least made that one more interesting. As in previous episodes the special effects are pretty good; especially considering that this was a TV show made almost a decade ago not a Hollywood film. Overall another good episode with a fine mix of mystery, comedy and tragedy.
