Does guild win for 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' in Best Costume Design predict an Oscar victory Sunday?

20 February 2015 11:48 AM, PST | Gold Derby | See recent Gold Derby news »

The Oscar for Best Costume Design is sometimes one of the hardest to predict. The Costume Designers Guild offers some assistance, with their awards for Period, Fantasy, and Contemporary films, but since 1999, when the guild first started handing out prizes, they’ve predicted the eventual Oscar winner only seven times (from 1999-2004, the Period and Fantasy Awards were combined; in 2005, the category was split): 2002: Colleen Atwood, “Chicago” (Period/Fantasy) 2003: Ngila Dickson, “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” (Period/Fantasy, Oscar shared with Richard Taylor) 2005: Colleen Atwood, “Memoirs of a Geisha” (Period) 2008: Michael O’Connor, “The Duchess” (Period) 2009: Sandy Powell, “The Young Victoria” (Period) 2010: Colleen Atwood, “Alice in Wonderland” (Fantasy) 2012: Jacqueline Durran, “Anna Karenina” -Break- Updated: Experts' Oscars predic...' »

Rupert Friend Means Business in This 'Hitman: Agent 47' Trailer (Video)

11 February 2015 2:45 AM, PST | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

Here's the trailer for the "Hitman" remake you didn't know you needed. Rupert Friend, who is mostly known for his role on "Homeland" and films like "The Young Victoria" and "Pride & Prejudice," stars in "Hitman: Agent 47" as a bald, genetically engineered assassin known only as, you guessed it, Agent 47. (Friend replaced Paul Walker after Walker's untimely death in November 2013.) Timothy Olyphant starred in the original "Hitman," based on the video game, way before he hit it big as Raylan Givens on "Justified." Which is probably for the best, really.

Naturally, some baddies want to harness Agent 47's deadly talents and create a veritable army of incredibly scary assassins. Sounds like a bad idea! Luckily, a mysterious man named John Smith is here to make sure that doesn't happen, with help from a woman whose father is behind all this genetic engineering craziness.

Brad Pitt To Star In Untitled Romantic Thriller From Robert Zemeckis

6 February 2015 12:36 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Paramount Pictures has announced today that one of their next top-shelf projects has locked in Brad Pitt to star with Robert Zemeckis set to direct. A co-op production that also includes Gk Films and New Regency, the movie has been described as a “sweeping romantic thriller” based on an original screenplay by Steve Knight.

For the screenwriter, this will no doubt come as welcome news. Knight’s latest theatrical title – Seventh Son – hasn’t exactly lit up the critical barometer nor the box office. The fact that two of the industry’s biggest names, Pitt and Zemeckis, are making one of his scripts is a big deal. After all, he also penned Locke and Eastern Promises, both solid character-based pieces, so this new talented crew ought to steer his newest script back on course.

Aside from the fact that the film is described as “epic” and “sweeping,” there’s not much else to go on. »

The 10 Most Badass Oscar Speeches Ever

16 January 2015 5:27 PM, PST | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

I am ready for Oscar speeches. I am ready for badass Oscar speeches. And here are 10 that remind you what it looks like when a bad-ass wields a gold statue and tells it like it is.  1. Lee Grant remembers what Hollywood did to her. And now they will never forget. Lee Grant, who won a Best Supporting Actress for "Shampoo," was blacklisted in the '50s and had to put her entire career on hold. She eventually rebounded with an Emmy for "Peyton Place" and a couple of Oscar nominations. When the time came to approach the dais, she had reckoning on her mind. Addressing her Oscar, she said, "We had a fight 20 years ago. I think he's changed. I know I haven't." Bam. 2. George Burns was the hottest young star of '75. George Burns picked up an Oscar for "The Sunshine Boys" at the age of 80. And yet, he »
