this card was the ufc debut of Herring who at the time had made a big name for himself by beating top heavyweights in Pride fc. Jake O'Brien came into this match on a two fight win streak yet was still talked about by commentators as an underdog Joe Rogan went so far as saying this would be O'Brien's toughest fight to date. what Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg seemed to forget was that Jake is a DOMINATING wrestler. the majority of round 1 saw both fighters in a crouched standing position neither of them wanted to risk being hurt early so they opted for semi serious boxing but landing nothing. with two minutes left in the round Jake went to his wrestling roots and easily shot in for a double leg take down which he used to control Crazy Horse. round 2 was more of the same as minutes passed it became very obvious that Heath Herring had not at all expected a ground based fight. O'Brien even landed one elbow into the face that cut his Texas based opponent. Herring became so desperate for a stand up by ref John Mccarthy that he complained during the fight about being out worked saying of O'Brien's style "he's not doing anything he's just holding me down". that caused Joe Rogan to wonder why herring regarded as a top 10 guy was not doing more to escape from mount. after repeated successful take downs and yes some Lay and Pray the fight went to a unanimous decision win for "irish" Jake O'Brien who then in a post fight interview thanked his coaches and former wrestling partners in college. Herring went the other way in his interview complaining about wanting a stand up fight. but begrudgingly admitting that thru his wrestling Jake O'Brien was a better fighter
