Mandy Freemont is the keystone in Gonch & Ziggy's computerized homework service, so Gonch is out to impress her - surely the huge volume of Les Miserables on his desk will help? Helen pursues her interest in engineering, with some work experience in the offing. Miss Booth's self-defence class hits a snag with union rules about overtime. Still finding their day-to-day activities, dogged (so to speak) by the ferocious Alsation, Clarke and Matthew use the tower block to survey the area using binoculars. They spot Clarke's lost bike - and dash off in pursuit down the stairs. When they get to the spot, the bike is no longer there - and Matthew realizes he left the binoculars at the top... Ziggy and Robbie find Mandy outside the community hall, where they find what appears to be a pop group called Les Diapositives on in the evening, as part of the French Club - they tell her that Gonch is interested.
