OK, Sam Ryan isn't all that likeable, but honestly, only if you're trying to cover something up. She's scrupulously honest, has extremely high standards and expects the same from others particularly if they purport to be in some way in authority. So dodgy coppers get right up her nose.
In this instance, there is absolutely no doubt that the DCI was in the wrong. She ought to have been up front from the start and then Sam would have kept her in the loop re the young woman whose sister was the armless body.
I get that people trafficking is absolutely ghastly, but those police officers who caused the pile up by ramming their suspect's vehicle were putting their investigation ahead of the lives and well-being of other people who were completely innocent and ignorant of what was going on. They were reckless and their boss was equally reckless in covering it up.
The implied criticism of Sam and the way the DCI made out Sam was responsible for the final bodies was totally out of order.
Frankly, in this episode, it was the police officer who was the most unlikeable and doesn't have the excuse of being brutally honest.
