Sam, the butch patholigist who loves to be rude to the police officers that work with her, starts every post-mortem with the goal of proving that the police made a mistake, covered up something, or were in fact the killers. I have never seen a lead character that had absolutely zero charisma like Sam (Played by Amanda Burton). She always seems to have a scowl on her face, and she never says thank you, please, or hello to anyone. Just watching her deal with her colleagues makes me greatful that I can turn her off or fast-forward when I want to.
In this episode, Sam has barely looked at the footprints on the victim of an attack in his prison cell, when she is already making up a story that the footprints look wrong. Now how could she imagine that back with the technology of 1996? Just Sam stirring things up and creating the insinuation that the Police officers may have killed the man in the holding cell, and not the accused drunk.
After alot of nastiness ensues thanks to Sam provoking people, one of the police officers commits suicide. On several occasions Sam pushes her way into the homes of the wife of the dead officer, and the wife of his partner. Both times she just pushes the door open on these women, and they would have been within their rights to have her arrested.
In every episode so far, people contact DS Farmer to file complaints against Sam for her unprofessional behavior, but nothing is ever said about it later. Sam is a very nasty character, and she has no respect for anyone. Sam's sister is having issues with her son Ricky, and Sam does everything to undermine her sister, and allows Ricky to live as he likes when he stays over at Aunt Sam's home. Just the most ego-centric character on any TV series. Sam does as she likes, and she could care less about the rest of the human race.
At the end, after one police officer is dead, his partner gets arrested, and the retired Duty Sergeant is disgraced, Sam reveals that the first victim died by accident, due to a subdural hemotoma when he got shoved and hit his head. That would have been nice to reveal before three police officers lives were destroyed.
The only good thing about this series so far is John McGlyn, Clare Higgins, and Ruth Gemmel. They play their roles as detectives in a very credible and professional manner. Unfortunately, it looks like all of them got canned after the first season.
