At a department store, Dennis intervenes when shop assistant Glenda ( Yootha Joyce ) is verbally abused by an irate customer ( Robin Parkinson ). He winds up taking her to lunch. Despite her being a lot older than him, they strike up a friendship. When she wants to visit a sick relative, he lends her the train fare, but she later returns it, saying her relative got better. Soon talk of marriage is in the air. Sharon and Eric think she is far too old for him, and set about trying to split them up...
Yootha Joyce, just a year away from the role for which she is best remembered - love-starved 'Mildred Roper' in 'Man about The House' - gives a lovely, convincing performance as the world-weary 'Glenda'. She is attracted to Dennis because of his innocence ( luckily she never meets his drunken Dad! ), and stands up for herself when confronted by Sharon. She breaks off the relationship of her own accord at the end. The mix of comedy and pathos is well done, without becoming overly sentimental.
Funniest moment - when Dennis exhibits his naivety, Glenda rolls her eyes, exclaiming: "My first virgin!". He looks puzzled, and replies: "I'm not a virgin. I'm a bloke!".
