Craven Vs. Craven!
28 May 2010 | by (Ambrosia) – See all my reviews

Peter - with Dennis and Frankie in tow - collects a wardrobe from his parents' home to put in his new flat. Mr.Craven ( Norman Bird ) is the original henpecked husband - being made to wipe his feet before entering the house, having to be careful with food and so on. Mrs.Craven ( Maureen Pryor ) is 'she who must be obeyed'. Peter tries to get his Dad to stand up for himself, and takes him to the Three Feathers to get legless. Mrs.Craven is so shocked at her husband's inebriated state that she packs a case and leaves him...

Another not-too impressive episode, although greatly enlivened by the presences of the talented character actors Norman Bird and Maureen Pryor. Bird, like Tim Barrett, seems to have been in every sitcom of the era, and is well remembered for his role in the children's series 'Worzel Gummidge'. Pryor specialised in playing annoying old biddies - I once saw her in an I.T.V. play called 'Hearty Crafty' in which she starred alongside Diana Coupland and Richard Briers, and was brilliant as a nosey old neighbour.

Alison King - 'Nurse Sheila Reynolds' from 'Doctor On The Go' - is seen briefly as a woman in a pub. No real need for Duffy and Sharon to be in this, it mainly focuses on Craven trying to reconcile his parents' marriage.

Funniest moment - Frankie emerging from the wardrobe Dracula-style as it speeds along the road on the back on Craven's car, causing a cyclist ( Stuart Fell ) to crash!
