The corpse of Encarna Abellán appears dismembered into pieces in a beach of Barcelona. The family of the victim, wealthy Galician landowners, gives the case to Carvalho. They don't want any scandal. The detective discovers that Encarna's visits to Barcelona to go, supposedly, to a fertility hospital coincided with the arrival of the ship Rose of Alexandria at the port of the city. Encarna met a sailor of the ship, Ginés Larios, with whom she maintained hot sexual relations. She had to break up with him in the past because she made a marriage of convenience.
