Storyline

While trying to win a photography contest run by a local tabloid, Thomas ultimately makes up Sarah as a poor, lower class widow and submits the picture. Unfortunately while out in the rain, he comes down with double pneumonia, and the prognosis is grim. Through unusual circumstances, his photograph wins first prize and Sarah is able to avoid being evicted from their flat, but when Thomas recovers but is unable to parlay his camera skills into a newspaper job, Sarah earns some money from answering an ad placed by a kinky couple. Sarah Moffat: [to Marboys about the staged photo] It's not the truth, is it? Its-it's a poetic vision of the truth. Well, that's what I think anyway.

Thomas becomes gravely ill.
10 August 2010 | by See all my reviews

Not one of my favourite episodes this - mainly due to the fact that I am rather 'squeamish' with regards to illnesses concerning chest complaints - particularly when John Alderton gives such a marvellous and convincing portrayal of someone at death's door with Pneumonia!

Thomas and Sarah fall once again on hard times. To make ends meet, Thomas takes up photography and takes a 'fake' photo of Sarah begging in the street for food. It wins in a newspaper competition and also the public's sympathy, and this results in many letters from the public, with one offering work for the down and out 'poor young widow of peckham' that is not all that it seems!
