Wolfie learns that a motorway is to be built through his beloved Tooting and, since Dad's factory is involved, he and his group, all masked, break in to steal the blue-print and leak it to the press. However Wolfie encounters Ronnie and his crooks, also masked, who have broken in to steal the safe and accidentally sets off the alarm, causing all parties to run. The motorway plan is defeated - to Ronnie's annoyance since his firm had a vested interest in it - and to make matters worse Ronnie catches Wolfie in a compromising position with his seductive younger wife Mandy. Thus Citizen Smith is forced to go on the run. Written by don @ minifie-1

The Parting Of The Wolfie
12 June 2010 | by (Ambrosia) – See all my reviews

Although not screened as the final episode, 'Sweet Sorrow' should have been as it brings the show to a definite end. It is impossible to imagine 'Buon Natale' taking place after it, unless Ronnie Lynch has suddenly developed a forgiving nature. Wolfie finds a dossier left in his room by Charlie, which contains proposals to put a new by-pass through Tooting. These will not be made public for another two months. Wolfie smells a backhander job and sees a chance to expose the corrupt scheme and bring down the council, so he and the rest of the T.P.F. break into Haydon Electronics Ltd. one night to retrieve the dossier. Decked out in masks with white eyes and mouths which make them look like the Black and White Minstrels, they have the misfortune to run into Ronnie Lynch and his mob...

The main reason why 'Buon Natale' went out last seems to be that it was set close to Christmas. Another could be that 'Sweet Sorrow' ends on a downer. Wolfie goes round to Lynch's flat to explain his actions from the previous night, and is almost seduced by Mandy. When Lynch comes home from a council meeting, he is livid as the proposals have been abandoned ( he was hoping to get the contract to build the by-pass ). On finding Wolfie in the bedroom, the gangster hits meltdown. He puts a contract out on Wolfie worth £6,000. Even Speed looks tempted to rub out his leader and claim the reward. A terrified Wolfie has just enough time to go back to the Johnsons, grab his possessions, say goodbye, and leave. Our last sighting of him is at Tooting Broadway station ( which is kind of ironic as our first sighting of him three years before was in the same place! ). Before he enters, he hands his guitar over to a complete stranger.

Funniest moment - Lynch putting his jacket in the wardrobe, hanging it on the back of Wolfie's coat and not noticing him inside! Wolfie's real name is finally disclosed - Walter Henry Smith! As he says: "who'd join a revolution with someone called W.H. Smith!".

We can only speculate where Wolfie went to next. Here's my guess - he went home to stay with his parents - Edna and Jakey....!
