Trivia

The Giant rushed the NWO's locker room during the Harlem Heat-High Voltage match, and the camera did not stay on Scott Hall, who appeared to have a swollen face, a black eye and a bandage. When the Outsiders (Hall and Kevin Nash) made their way out after the Diamond Dallas Page-Mark Starr match, Hall stayed in the background. Allegedly, Jerry Saggs (Jerry Saganowich) of the Nasty Boys had legitimately beaten up Hall at a house show on January 4th in Arkansas, in response to concussions he had suffered from Hall and Nash throwing chairs at the back of his head. That match marked Saggs' last-ever appearance in WCW and Brian Knobbs' (Brian Yandrisovitz) last WCW match for two years. See more »

The night DDP's career took off!

Hour one.

Live from New Orleans, LA

Your hosts are Tony Schiavone & Larry Zbyszko

The Giant storms into the nWo's locker room because Hulk Hogan is backing out of their match at WCW/NWO Souled out.

J.L. Vs Chavo Guerrero Jr.

Chavo wins with a moonsault from the top. This was pretty nifty for the amount of time it got. They managed to cram in quite a bit for a match just over four minutes.

**1/4

"Hacksaw" Jim Duggan tells Sting to be a man and help lead WCW. Duggan is carrying a WCW flag.

"Hacksaw" Jim Duggan Vs Super Calo

The match never gets started because Sting comes into the ring from the crowd and delivers a scorpion deathdrop to Duggan. The crowd didn't know what to make of it, but I loved it! I can't stand Duggan.

Chris Jericho Vs Sgt. Craig Pittman

Jericho wins in very quick fashion with a missile dropkick. This was far too short for me to really comment on this.

½*

Harlem Heat (W/Sister Sherri) Vs High Voltage

Harlem Heat wins in a match that was OK. The Giant stormed into Hogan's locker room and yelled at him again for backing out of the match. Hogan and Bischoff mock The Giant.

*1/2

Eric Bischoff, Ted Dibiase, and Vincent come out and invade the announcer's table, forcing Schiavone and Zbyszko out.

Diamond Dallas Paige Vs Mark Starr

DDP wins in over a minute with the Diamond Cutter. Scott Hall & Kevin Nash come down and hand DDP an nWo shirt. DDP puts it on. He shakes Hall's hand and pulls him in to hit a diamond cutter on Hall! Nash goes to attack DDP, but DDP grabs the top rope and Nash goes flying over the top rope. DDP escapes through the crowd.

Thoughts: This was absolutely one of the biggest face turns. DDP was getting big pops as a heel and it was only right to pull the trigger on a face turn. The crowd popped huge for DDP's face turn.

Dean Malenko Vs Eddie Guerrero

Malenko wins with a powerbomb from the top after Eddie gets distracted by Syxx. This match would have been four stars easily if it wasn't for that horrific slow start. It picked up steam in a huge way and became a fantastic match.

***1/2

Hour two.

Your hosts are Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay & Bobby Heenan

Konnan (W/Jimmy Hart) Vs Super Calo

Konnan wins with the cradle DDT. This was far too short to really amount to much. It was a bit sloppy as well.

*1/4

Chris Beniot (W/Woman) Vs Jeff Jarrett

Jarrett wins when Steve McMichael accidentally nails Beniot with the briefcase. Again, this was too short. It's interesting to note that there were loud "Jarrett sucks" chants.

*1/2

Chris Beniot, Steve McMichael, Arn Anderson, Debra, and Woman continue to disintegrate by arguing some more.

Scotty Riggs Vs Billy Kidman

Riggs wins with a fisherman's suplex. The only noteworthy thing about this match is Buff Bagwell coming down to taunt Scotty Riggs.

Lex Luger Vs Rick Fuller

Luger wins with the rack. Luger and The Giant have a staredown on Luger's way back.

*1/4

Up next is an interview with The Giant. The Giant says it's not about nWo or WCW, it's about Hulk Hogan and The Giant. He says somebody asked him how bad he wants it. He says he wants it really bad. He says he wants to be WCW champion. When he was with the nWo, he was the bookend. He kept the nWo together. The Giant says he's gonna close the chapter on Hulkamania forever tonight.

Arn Anderson Vs Rick Steiner (W/Scott Steiner)

Scott Steiner is pulling Rick Steiner on a leash. I guess that's supposed to be amusing. Rick Steiner wins by countout after Arn Anderson says to hell with it and goes to the back. Scott Steiner cuts a brief promo after the match.

*

Hollywood Hogan (W/The nWo) Vs The Giant

Hogan tries to back out, but The Giant makes sure he doesn't. The Giant wins by DQ after the nWo interferes. The Giant is shown fending them off as Nitro goes off the air. Kinda surprising that they gave this match away on free TV just before Souled Out. The Giant completely dominated the match with Hogan barely getting in any offense.

*

This is a good show for the most part. It had a lot of memorable things. DDP's face turn, Hogan getting his ass kicked, Mysterio Vs Guerrero, and more. See it

7/10
