I am an ex-pat Aussie living in the US and I loved the US version. I also love the Aussie version. I find all the griping by the Aussies really painful - talk about a tall poppy syndrome as Kath would say. THe thing that makes Kath&Kim work so well for me is that I know those stereotypes in Australia. The point is that the US does not have those stereotypes, and hence they have to adapt the characters to ones Americans can relate to. What is innovative is that it is a show about the mother/daughter relationship which is seldom explored on TV except in sickeningly sweet shows like the Brady Bunch. The reality is often not very pretty, Kath and Kim strip all the sugarcoating off and shows it for what it is - by turning it into a joke. I can't wait to see more of both series!
