More and more frequently, the content of a film, the director or the cast is becoming less of a priority. Instead, the phrase "In mind-blowing 3D" has become the tagline norm just as much as the wit on display when marketing execs decide "Slow justice is no justice" is fitting for the 2D fare. I, as should all of us, blame James Cameron.
As innocent as Cameron's effect on cinema may have been, thanks to him and Avatar, not only was it proven 3D is an alphanumeric acronym for "Show me the money!" but it also brought along the idea 3D wasn't simply a tool for less-imaginative helmers. And by the way, I think Cameron realizes this.
Would Martin Scorsese have ever said, "Why couldn't a film like Precious be in 3D? It should be," if it wasn't for Avatar? Scorsese's statement was made in early March 2010, right around the »

According to a recent profile interview in Total Film, Gemma Arterton (Clash of the Titans) will be joining Andrew Garfield (The Social Network) in Michael Mann's Waiting for Robert Capa. This is the first we've heard of any kind of casting for the film, but Arterton seems quite convinced telling the film mag, "I'm aiming for even more diversity. Capa [biopic about the combat photographer Robert Capa] is confirmed, so I should be working with your hottest actor, Andy Garfield!"
Fair Game co-writer Jez Butterworth was adapting Susana Fortes's Spanish language novel "Waiting for Robert Capa," for Mann centering on the famous war photographer with intention of the film being turned into a gritty, low budget film.
The story begins in Paris in 1935, where Capa (Garfield), a refugee from Fascist Hungary, met Gerda Taro (Arterton), a refugee from Nazi Germany, both with the intention to become photographers. The outbreak of the Spanish Civil War one »

Earlier this month, Campbell Scott (Damages, Royal Pains) and Julianne Nicholson (Law & Order: Criminal Intent, William Vincent) joined the cast of director Marc Webb’s as yet Untitled Spider-Man Reboot. The pair were cast as Peter Parker’s parents. Irrfan Khan (In Treatment) and Annie Parisse (Fringe, The Tested) were also cast in the film, as Nels Van Atter and Van Atter’s wife, respectively.
Now, Chris Zylka (Kaboom) confirmed on twitter that he has been cast as Peter Parker’s high school nemesis, Eugene “Flash” Thompson. Flash is a star high school football player and classmate of Parker who mercilessly bullies “Puny Parker”, and ironically admires Spider-Man.
The Untitled Spider-Man Reboot is slated to hit theaters on July 3rd, 2012.

Emma Stone and Viola Davis in The Help
Photo: DreamWorks Pictures I'm very interested to see where the career of Emma Stone heads. I never saw Easy A, but continue to hear mixed opinions on it. However, the fact she's become a rather hot commodity in Hollywood is indisputable. Coming up Stone has Crazy, Friends with Benefits, The Croods, the Untitled Spider-Man Reboot and the film previewed above, The Help along with Viola Davis, Bryce Dallas Howard and Allison Janney. By the time the Spider-Man film hits I think we'll have a good idea just how big a star Stone may end up being.

Just a couple of days ago, we brought you some photos of the lovely Emma Stone, having transformed from the crimson haired girl we’ve all been used to, into the Gwen Stacy blonde that she’s sporting for the forthcoming Untitled Spider-Man Reboot. The reboot is currently shooting in California, under the control of director Marc Webb.
Now, we get a look at some photos of Miss Stone, taken behind the scenes during filming. The photos seem to have been taken during a funeral scene in the film, and our new Gwen Stacy looks quite upset. You’ll notice that there are policemen in their dress uniforms in the background of a couple of the shots. Could this be her father, Captain Stacy’s (Denis Leary) funeral? or could it be someone else?
If you’ve got any guesses, drop them in the comments below!

We knew that Marc Webb's new version of Spider-Man (or, more formally, the Untitled Spider-Man Reboot) for Sony was planning to shoot in early December. And now look, it's early December and there's a post from the film's cinematographer, John Schwartzman, trumpeting about the first day of shooting with Red's new Epic line cameras. (The same tech that will be used [1] for The Hobbit.) Expect to see some set photos soon -- it's virtually impossible to keep a set fully locked down in this era -- but for now you can read the bulk of Mr. Scwartzman's comments after the break. This post appeared on the Red user forums. (via ComingSoon [2]) A summation of his comments might be "the Red Epic is awesome!" as Mr. Schwartzman praises the high imaging resolution, light weight and flexibility. Today was Epic, Monday December 6 marks the first day the Red Epic camera was »

John SchwartzmanPeter Jackson is all set to shoot The Hobbit and its sequel in 3D using the Red Epic Digital Cameras and today it was confirmed (via MarketSaw) that Marc Webb's Untitled Spider-Man Reboot would be following suit.
The film's cinematographer John Schwartzman (Seabiscuit, The Green Hornet) posted the following in the RedUser forums: Today was Epic, Monday December 6 marks the first day the Red Epic camera was used to shoot a major studio motion picture. I can say for certainty the camera does exist and boy is it ready for primetime, as a matter of fact it's a true game changer. We shot in 3D with 4 Epics mounted on 2 3ality Ts-5 rigs today, we did 22 set ups, including running high speed and the images look stunning! I do believe the sensor is iso 800 minus 1 stop for the mirror in daylight and iso 640 in tungsten light but that is »

Just last month, we told you that Martin Sheen, Sally Field, Zooey Deschanel and Denis Leary had joined Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans and Andrew Garfield in director Marc Webb‘s forthcoming Untitled Spider-Man Reboot for Sony’s Columbia Pictures.
Now, THR reports that Campbell Scott (Damages, Royal Pains) and Julianne Nicholson (Law & Order: Criminal Intent, William Vincent) will be joining the cast as Peter Parker’s parents, and Irrfan Khan (In Treatment) will be playing Nels Van Atter, alongside Annie Parisse (Fringe, The Tested) as Van Atter’s wife.
Nels Van Atter is rumored to be the film’s second villain. In the comics, Van Atter was Mendel Stromm’s research assistant, and an employee of Norman Osborne. He was used in high-tech experiments, and served as a test subject for a chemical that was developed by Osborne and Stromm, which turned him into a red beast with fangs and claws known as Proto-Goblin. »

Sony Pictures Entertainment is planning to bring Mary Shelley’s classic monster, Frankenstein in to the modern age. Craig Fernandez (From Prada to Nada) wrote the screenplay, which will take Dr. Frankenstein and his monster from his classic digs and bring them into modern-day. No information has been announced as to when Sony’s Frankenstein will go into production as of yet.
Deadline reports that this will be producer Matthew Tolmach‘s (Untitled Spider-Man Reboot) first project since departing his position as Sony co-president in order to focus more on production.
Frankenstein is slated to hit theaters in 2013. »

Photo: Just Jared Thanks to Just Jared (via /F) you get the above look at Emma Stone with her new hairdo for her upcoming role as Gwen Stacy in Marc Webb's Untitled Spider-Man Reboot.
The image to the left was taken of Stone back in 2009 and if you ask me she's hardly recognizable with the overwhelming amount of mascara and blond locks. Any thoughts?
The film is set to go into production this month for a July 3, 2012 release date. »

The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Marc Webb's Untitled Spider-Man Reboot has added a second villain to the fray in the form of Nels Van Adder to be played by Irrfan Khan whom most of you will remember as the Police Inspector from Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire.
I initially found nothing on the character in a search on the Internet, which may be due to the fact THR referred to the villain as "Van Atter" instead of what apparently should be "Van Adder." Nels Van Adder to be exact.
Based on information at The Green Goblin's Hideout, Van Adder was an employee of Osborn Industries and became a test subject for Norman Osborn (the character played by Willem Dafoe in the first Spider-Man feature) and as a result he turned into a demon-like monster the comics referred to as Proto-Goblin.

I consider this to be pretty big news, especially for Kathryn Bigelow's follow-up to The Hurt Locker as ComingSoon reports Tom Hanks is set to star in Bigelow's Triple Frontier. There were rumors Hanks was joining the cast, but ComingSoon was able to get in touch with the film's producer, Charles Roven, who told the site, "Tom Hanks is starring in the film and we're still looking to cast the other roles. We're hoping to start shooting the movie sometime in mid-March."
Mark Boal, who penned Bigelow's Hurt Locker, also penned Triple Frontier, which may or may not be changing its title to Sleeping Dogs. The film is set in the notorious border zone between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil where the Igazu and Parana rivers converge -- making "la triple frontera" difficult to monitor and a haven for organized crime.
Bigelow was actually offered the director's chair on the Untitled Spider-Man Reboot, »

Just last week, we brought you a report about Denis Leary (Rescue Me, Ice Age: Continental Drift) being in talks to appear in director Marc Webb‘s as yet Untitled Spider-Man Reboot as police captain George Stacy, the father of Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone).
Emma Stone herself recently spoke with MTV about her recent rehearsals, learning chemistry, and about leaving her red hair behind and returning to her natural blonde for the role of Gwen Stacy:
“There are a lot of changes happening on a day to day basis. There’s a lot of open dialogue about where we’re going with this and how Peter and Gwen are going to come together and what makes the most sense for the story we’re telling. It’s an ever-changing thing. We’re still in that development period. It’s so fantastic. My background is in improv and things like that, »

This is a Pure Movies exclusive video Interview with Jesse Eisenberg for The Social Network. The film is written by Aaron Sorkin (The West Wing, A Few Good Men, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip), is directed by David Fincher (Fight Club, Zodiac, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) and stars Jesse Eisenberg (Zombieland, Adventureland), Andrew Garfield (Untitled Spider-Man Reboot), Rashida Jones, Brenda Song, Justin Timberlake and Joseph Mazzello. The Social Network is both a fiction for and a document of the 21st century’s first influential generation. It tells a story which, if not fabricated, is at the very least, generously embellished – but it also realistically reflects back to us how technology has the power to deepen our latent compulsion for controlling our own narratives, at the expense of our personal relationships. This is a challenging subject to tackle onscreen without resorting to sensationalism, and the creators of The Social Network »

Not too long ago, we brought you the news that Martin Sheen was cast as Uncle Ben, Sally Field was in early talks to portray Aunt May, and Zooey Deschanel (Your Highness) was rumored to be wanted by director Marc Webb himself to play Betty Brant in the as yet Untitled Spider-Man Reboot.
Now, THR reports that Denis Leary (Rescue Me, Ice Age: Continental Drift) is currently in talks to appear in the film as police captain George Stacy, the father of Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone).
In the classic comics, the character strongly approves of his daughter’s relationship with Peter Parker (Spider-Man), and is also a strong supporter of Spider-Man. In the classic The Amazing Spider-Man (vol. 1) #90 (Nov. 1970), During a fight between Spider-Man and Doctor Octopus, Captain Stacy is crushed by falling debris while saving a child. As he dies, he reveals to Parker that he had known his identity for some time, »

The new Spider-Man’s cast count is about to go up by one, it would seem, as Denis Leary is now negotiating to take the role of police captain George Stacy, better known as the father of Emma Stone’s Gwen.Given his gruff, sarcastic and occasionally violent attitude to men who approach his TV daughters on Rescue Me, we’re betting Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker will be glad he has Spidey strength and the ability to scuttle away up walls. And in one run of the comics, of course, (spoiler alert in case this carries over into the new film) George comes to a rather sticky end thanks to falling debris caused by a battle between Spider-Man and Doc Ock. While the good (bad?) Doctor won’t be cropping up this time, and no one outside of the production knows what plot elements Marc Webb's film will use, »

Back in September we brought you a report saying that Marc Webb‘s as yet Untitled Spider-Man Reboot “will feature both of Spidey’s most prominent love interests, the red-headed Mary Jane Watson, played in the last three movies by Kirsten Dunst, and blonde Gwen Stacy, which Bryce Dallas Howard played in Spider-Man 3″.
When we brought you that quote from EW, there were still a bevy of actresses reportedly meeting with Webb and the film’s star, Andrew Garfield about a leading lady role, and Deadline first reported that Sony had offered the role of Mary Jane Watson to the lovely Emma Stone (Easy A, Zombieland). We then found out just two days later that Stone had in-fact been cast in the film, just not as the crimson haired Mj but, in the lead role of the platinum haired Gwen Stacy.

Deadline is a reputable enough source that we can examine their list of female front-runners for two lead roles in Christopher Nolan's upcoming Batman franchise finale, The Dark Knight Rises with some measure of legitimacy. Before we get to the names, you should know they are being reported as candidates for the first role as a love interest for Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne, and the other is a villain. Oh yeah, now the wheels are turning.
Of course, the "love interest" role is one no one's really interested in, but this villain news means the previously cast Tom Hardy won't be the only villain in the film. As for which ladies are rumored for the two roles? Well...
Anne Hathaway Keira Knightley Blake Lively Natalie Portman Naomi Watts Rachel Weisz
So, now the question is who will any of them play should they get the role?
