Fun & Very Frustrating At Times!
9 June 2007 | by See all my reviews

Def Jam Icon is one hard game. It's completely different from the first two Def Jam games. The entire combat system has changed, you no longer can do those crazy blaze finishing movies. You now use music as your weapon and your environments around you. It's very confusing at first, but after awhile you'll get the hang on the controls. I still found blocking to be a royal pain! The A.I. in this game is very smart too. I've had many times when I had their health all the way down, then all of a sudden they came back from near death and killed me! You've got tons of rappers to choose from. You can even sign rappers to a record deal too. The game even has Lil Jon playable from the start! The rappers look very realistic, and all have the real voices of the rappers too! The music in this game is great too; you've got tons of cool rap songs to fight to. There are only 8 levels though; you'll be playing the same level over and over. The story line is mostly about you helping out Curtis Carver sign on rappers and make money. Then you've got your record rival Troy Dollar (Anthony Anderson) bothering you through out the game. There's more to the story later on though, but I don't want to spoil it for anyone. It's a fun game, if you can overlook the confusing controls. It's no where near as great as the last Def Jam game though. I'd recommend trying it if you liked the first two Def Jam games. It might disappoint some people though. I'd give it an 8/10 The Xbox 360 version also has it where you can use your own music to fight too!
