Murderous fugitive Ellis Colton is wounded during a bank robbery and narrowly manages to escape. He abandons his car and hides in John Alvin's barn, but Alvin becomes aware of his presence. He subsequently learns that a $10,000 reward is offered for Colton's capture. Despite the advice of Dan Mathews, Alvin foolishly enlists fellow farmers George Bailey and Vance Wells to attempt to capture Colton and collect the reward. The attempt is unsuccessful and Wells is seriously wounded. Dan and Officer Dennis learn what has happened from Edna Alvin and Dan enters the barn, ultimately finding himself in a fistfight with Colton. Dan prevails, and Edna is pleasantly surprised when she learns the details of the reward offer. Written by Sam Spear

Narrator: In waging its constant battle against crime, the Highway Patrol, like all law enforcement agencies, is sometimes hampered in emergencies by private citizens. One such emergency occurred last November, involving a holdup man who had attempted the robbery of a country bank. He was known to the police as Ellis Colton, a brutal, cold-blooded killer. There were rewards totaling ten thousand dollars for information leading to his capture, dead or alive.
