Justin Theroux Not Threatened by Jennifer Aniston's Success

26 April 2017 6:50 AM, PDT | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

It's hard to match Jennifer Aniston's star power. And that's just fine with Justin Theroux. In Esquire's May issue, he admits he's "not at all" threatened by her achievements. "She's successful for a reason...We're not in competition." After a pause, he jokes, "If I was competing for the same job as her, I might be less forgiving." Fortunately, the couple—who met through Robert Downey Jr. on the set of 2008's Tropic Thunder and co-starred in 2012's Wanderlust—want to act together again. Interview: Director Ben Wheatley Ignites His New Film ‘Free Fire’

18 April 2017 6:53 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – One of the more lovely examples of pure cinema – if that description can be given to a film with nearly constant gunplay – is in the upcoming release of “Free Fire.” Director Ben Wheatley (“High-Rise”) constructs a dark and funny scenario within one room, and fills it with symbolism and homage to other movies.

Set in 1978, the story was based on an article that Ben Wheatley read about Irish gun runners during the Ira conflict. His writing partner Amy Jump, who is also his wife, concocted a narrative that had the gun deal go bad. What follows is a shoot out that lasts in real time over the 80 minutes it takes place. With outrageous asides, pitch black comedy and some of more creative violence this side of Quentin Tarantino, “Free Fire” takes its place as one of the best films, so far, in 2017.

Their Finest review

10 April 2017 7:49 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Their Finest is a genuine, heartfelt love letter to filmmaking in a time of national adversity...

Movies about making movies may just be my favourite kind. It's a meta Inception-esque sub-genre that has provided us with some of cinema's greatest and most memorable moments. Think Singin' In the Rain, Mulholland Drive, 8 1/2, Hail, Caesar!, Hugo and even Tropic Thunder. There's so much potential in the making of the movies - from the creative process through to shooting, post-production and release, there's high stakes, high tension and high drama. With so much on the line for so many people, clashes and chaos are bound to ensue. Their Finest follows this format except there's even more on the line than usual - set during WWII, its characters also have the morale of the entire nation during the darkest of times to consider.

Justin Theroux is thoroughly enjoying being Jennifer Aniston's husband.

The Leftovers star chats with United Airlines' Rhapsody magazine about the benefits of being married to the 48-year-old actress. "Marriage makes the small things much smaller and the big things small,” he notes. “You have an ally. It’s good to have someone have your back."

Theroux also has a great response to all the tabloid headlines about his relationship with Aniston. "I think it would be funny to do a compilation of those headlines. Let’s assume these characters we play in the tabloids are real people," he quips. "I would love to take them to a shrink and have them analyzed. Like, are these people insane? Yes, they fight every day, they’re constantly getting divorced, they’re hoarding children at this point. Imagine what those »

7 April 2017 7:02 AM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

With a seemingly endless amount of streaming options — not only the titles at our disposal, but services themselves — we’ve taken it upon ourselves to highlight the titles that have recently hit platforms. Every week, one will be able to see the cream of the crop (or perhaps some simply interesting picks) of streaming titles (new and old) across platforms such as Netflix, iTunes, Amazon, and more (note: U.S. only). Check out our rundown for this week’s selections below.

The Bfg (Steven Spielberg)

CGI loses the day in Steven Spielberg’s The Bfg, a partly motion-captured, eco-minded adaptation of Roald Dahl’s adored children’s book that leans so heavily on green-screen trickery that even Mark Rylance’s kind eyes — squinting out from that computer-generated abyss — can’t save it from mediocrity. The plotline of a friendly, dream-blowing giant who takes an orphaned girl under his wing has »

Exclusive: Justin Theroux Says He Would 'Definitely' Like to Write a TV Role for Wife Jennifer Aniston

With his acclaimed HBO drama The Leftovers kicking off its third and final season later this month, Justin Theroux is getting ready to start in on some new projects, and the multi-talented star said he'd love for them to include his wife, Jennifer Aniston.

"Right now I'm actually going to be focused on writing," Theroux told Et's Leanne Aguilera during an HBO press junket for The Leftovers on Monday. "So I have a few things that I've actually already written that I'm tweaking and retooling and another thing I want to write."

In the past, Aniston has said that if she ever did return to TV, she'd like it to be as part of a show on a premium cable network. With Aniston willing to jump onboard a scripted series, and Theroux turning his attention to writing, it could be »

SXSW 2017 Interview: Behind The Mask Cast & Crew on the Past, Present, and Future of Leslie Vernon

23 March 2017 3:17 PM, PDT | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

While in Austin at the 2017 SXSW Film Festival, I had the opportunity to catch up with a variety of folks responsible for the modern cult classic Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon, which celebrated its 10th anniversary with several screenings as part of the fest’s midnight lineup. Those on hand for the interview included co-writer/director Scott Glosserman, co-writer/producer David J. Stieve, star Nathan Baesel, and co-star Ben Pace.

As it turns out, when you get a group of filmmakers who also happen to be great friends together in one room for an interview, things can get a little nutty. That being said, we have some great highlights from Daily Dead’s in-depth chat with the gang behind one of the more boundary-pushing genre films of the last several decades, including the risk involved with making Behind the Mask, the legacy of Leslie Vernon, how they »

7 Films New to Netflix to Watch In April, Including ‘Kubo and the Two Strings’ and ‘Casting JonBenet’

The hits keep on coming from your friendly neighborhood streaming giant, Netflix, which announced a fresh round of titles hitting the airwaves next month. Ranging from never-before-streamed comedy specials to historical classics to critically acclaimed kids’ films, these titles are sure to keep you cooped up and entertained throughout mud season. Enjoy.

1. “Richard Pryor: Live & Smokin'” (available April 1)

The first of only four specials ever filmed by the legendary comedian, this 45-minute stand-up set from 1978 was released on VHS in 1985 and has never been available to stream before (legally). Almost universally revered by comedians of all stripes, this special has stayed relatively obscure due to an uneven performance from Pryor. Still, you can learn from a genius even on a bad day.

2. “Across the Universe” (available April 1)

Robert Downey Jr. will star in the movie “The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle,” based on the classic character who can talk to animals, for Universal Pictures.

Stephen Gaghan, who most recently directed Matthew McConaughey’s “Gold,” will helm the film from his own screenplay. Tom Shepherd wrote an earlier draft.

The studio, which acquired the project following a heated bidding war, has set up “The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle” with producers Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum through their Roth/Kirschenbaum Films, alongside Susan Downey for Team Downey.

Richard Linklater and Robert Downey Jr. to Get Nuts for Dr. John Brinkley Biopic

14 February 2017 9:32 AM, PST | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

As much as Robert Downey Jr. has defined the Marvel brand after launching it nearly a decade ago, his time commitment to the franchise means less room for films in the ilk of his pre-superhero days of Zodiac and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. So, whenever he decides to team with one of our favorite directors, we certainly await the project. With that said, his most promising film in some time is on the horizon.

According to Variety, Richard Linklater will direct the Tropic Thunder actor in a biopic surrounding Kansas doctor John Romulus Brinkley. While he was the basis for last year’s documentary Nuts! — depicting his time in the early 20th century when he said he could cure impotence by transplanting goat testicles into men — they will be specifically adapting the Reply All podcast’s recent episode “Man of the People.”
