Relativity Studios is pushing back the release of “Masterminds” by two weeks, Variety has learned.
The heist comedy will debut on Wednesday August 19, giving it a jump on a trio of wide releases that open on August 21 — the action comedy “American Ultra,” the video game adaptation “Hit Man: Agent 47,” and the horror film “Sinister 2.”
“Masterminds” was originally slated to bow on August 7, where it would have faced off against the superhero adventure “Fantastic Four,” the Meryl Streep dramedy “Ricki and the Flash,” and the animated film “Shaun the Sheep Movie.” It would have also had to contend with the second weekend of “Vacation,” a reboot of the “National Lampoon’s Vacation” series.
The hope is that “Masterminds” will get a boost from the later August release date. The time of year that historically has been hospitable to comedies such as “Tropic Thunder,” “Superbad,” and “Let’s Be Cops. »

Chris Rock's latest outing is a semi-autobiographical take on the rise and fall (and rise?) of a comedy star...
Your mileage may vary on inside-track Hollywood comedies. Among the greats, there are biting satires like The Player or Swimming With Sharks and broader, sillier works like Tropic Thunder or Bowfinger, but the kind of rarefied air in which they largely unfold can sometimes be suffocating.
Thankfully, that's not the case with Top Five, Chris Rock's first project as a writer-director since 2007's I Think I Love My Wife, and inarguably his best so far. With a semi-autobiographical approach, the film clearly has a lot of influences from other films but thrives on a brand of charm that is entirely its own.
Andre Allen (Rock) is a stand-up comedian turned movie star who is best known for a trilogy of cringe-making comedy movies in which he stars as a crime-fighting bear called Hammy. »

Wong Fu Productions has secured a distribution partner for its first feature-length film. The YouTube group, founded in 2003 and comprised of Philip Chang, Wesley Chan, and Ted Fu, will release the movie Everything Before Us exclusively via Vimeo On Demand on June 3, 2015.
Originally premiering at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival on April 23, Everything Before Us is a science fiction romantic drama set in a modern day world not terribly unlike our own, except for the fact a person's romantic history is documented like a credit score. The flick focuses on a couple trying to overcome the inherent drawbacks of the system for individuals who haven't had a lot of luck in love.
Everything Before Us stars Aaron Yoo (The Tomorrow People), Ki Hong Lee (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), Randall Park (The Interview), Brittany Ishibashi (Political Animals), Victoria Park (Raven’s Touch), and Brandon Soo Hoo (Tropic Thunder).

Tom Cruise isn't the first guy you might think of to star in a movie called Bob the Musical, first because his name isn't Bob, and second because the movie is billed as a high-concept comedy and Cruise is better-known as an action guy, but according to The Wrap Disney has its hopes firmly set on the Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation star to lead the project. Cruise isn't officially attached to the project yet, but I count myself a Cruise fan and I have to say I am excited about the prospect of him playing the lead in a comedy again, especially one with an interesting premise. According to the report Disney hopes to reel in Michel Hazanavicius (The Artist) to direct a script from Allan Loeb (Rock of Ages). The story is this: a regular guy can suddenly hear the inner songs of everyone's heart after suffering a blow to the head, »

Over the course of film history, we've seen plenty of long-time actors step behind the camera to take up their directorial ambitions. Clint Eastwood did it. Mel Gibson did it. George Clooney did it. What do these three have in commonc Well, for starters, they are all men, so there's that. Further, they are all white, but more on that later. More to the point of the article, these men all eased into their directorial careers by starring in their respective debuts, using their presence on screen to help market their talents off it. And with his feature directorial effort The Water Diviner, which hits limited theaters this week, Russell Crowe is just the most recent addition to a growing list of actors who have decided to try their hand behind the camera. Like Eastwood, Gibson, and Clooney before him, the Best Actor winner stars in his first feature as director, »

For some reason, Hollywood fell in love with British actors again in the 1990s. Sparked by Alan Rickman's turn as Hans Gruber in Die Hard at the back end of the 1980s, many movie villains were either Brits, or in the case of Cliffhanger, John Lithgow taking on the mannerisms of a British antagonist.
Yet in particular, Hollywood went recruiting British comedy talent, with faces then mainly - but not exclusively - known for their small screen work getting roles of various sizes in Hollywood productions. Here are some who racked up the air miles - starting with the man who arguably became one of the most successful...

Back in November, when it was reported that the long-awaited sequel Zoolander 2 is finally moving forward, we also found out that Penélope Cruz had joined the cast. The actress was never confirmed until today, when star/co-writer/director Ben Stiller revealed on his Twitter and Instagram pages that Penélope Cruz has in fact joined the cast. Unfortunately, no details were released regarding who she may be playing.
She joins a cast that includes Ben Stiller (Derek Zoolander), Owen Wilson (Hansel), Will Ferrell (Mugatu) and Christine Taylor (Matilda), who are reprising their roles from the original 2001 comedy Zoolander. The news of Penélope Cruz's confirmation comes just a few days after Ben Stiller announced another new cast member, Cyrus Arnold, who is playing Derek and Matilda's son, Derek Jr. The very end of Zoolander showed Derek Jr. as a newborn, with the sequel set 15 years after the original. »
Cruz was rumored to be part of the production last year, but this is the first official confirmation of her involvement.
Stiller and Wilson announced the film’s release date by walking in the Valentino show at Paris Fashion Week in March. The original “Zoolander” was released in 2001 and grossed $60 million worldwide on a budget of $28 million. The sequel is written by Stiller and Justin Theroux — who last teamed on “Tropic Thunder” — with Stiller set to direct.

We're still a ways away from getting a solid sense of what Zoolander 2 will actually be about, as the sequel isn't slated to hit theaters until February 2016, but a few photos and hints of what is in store have been trickling out over the last few months. There was that rather perfect runway gag that Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson played up at Paris's fashion week, and the announcement that the script for the sequel is penned by Stiller's Tropic Thunder collaborator and all-around hilarious heartthrob Justin Theroux. On top of this, we now have a solid glimpse at what Zoolander's progeny might look like, as Stiller posted a photo of newcomer Cyrus Arnold, who will play Zoolander Jr. in the sequel, and himself in Zoolander garb to Instagram earlier today. Shrouded in shadows, Doom-Head is featured in creepy fashion in the first still from Rob Zombie's 31. Also included in our latest round-up is a casting update for the second season of From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series and an exclusive excerpt from Doug Lavers’ sci-fi thriller, Rekindling of Hope.
Rob Zombie's 31: Played by Richard Brake, Doom-Head dominates the first official still from Rob Zombie's 31 (see below). Since the news broke earlier this month that Malcolm McDowell had joined the cast of 31 as Father Murder, more actors have joined the film's ranks:
Pancho Moler (2005's Bad News Bears, American Horror Story: Freak Show) plays Sick-Head. Jeff Daniel Phillips (The Lords of Salem, Halloween 2) portrays Roscoe, "the ass-kicking carney mechanic of Venus Virgo’s traveling show." Jane Carr (Curb Your Enthusiasm, How I Met Your Mother) plays Sister Serpent, "a wicked cross of Satan meets Mother Goose. »

There was some much needed good news for beleaguered DreamWorks Animation this weekend as its latest CG ‘toon offering, alien invasion comedy Home, scored a win at the Us box office, opening in first place with $54 million, according to studio estimates. The company has suffered several embarrassing write-offs in recent years and has been selling facilities and downsizing staff at a fast pace. But Home, which scored a surprise victory over Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart’s latest, Get Hard, will help to bolster the company’s bottom line. And perhaps it wasn’t that much of a surprise: after all, the new comedy from Tropic Thunder writer Etan Cohen, which sees Ferrell as a dim bulb Wall Street trader framed for fraud and sentenced to maximum security prison, has been beset by its own issues, with complaints about racist and homophobic comedy and terrible reviews. The movie opened to $34.6 million Stateside, »
Now playing in theaters is Get Hard, the directorial debut of Tropic Thunder and Men in Black 3 scribe Etan Cohen. The film stars Will Ferrell as a wealthy Bernie Madoff-type investment banker who enlists the man who washes his car (Kevin Hart) to help prepare him for a maximum-security prison sentence. The film also stars Alison Brie, Craig T. Nelson, Tip T.I. Harris, Ariana Neal, and Edwina Findley Dickerson. For more on the film, watch the green and red band trailers. A few days ago I landed an exclusive video interview with Tip T.I. Harris. He talked about working with Kevin Hart and Will Ferrell, if he got to see Kevin laugh a lot during takes, how much of his dialogue was scripted versus improvised, Marvel’s Ant-Man, and more.
