The Interview review round-up: Critics divided on Rogen and Franco's comedy

25 December 2014 8:08 AM, PST | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

It's become the most talked-about movie of the festive season - if not the entirety of 2014.

Seth Rogen and James Franco's political comedy The Interview was released in selected Us cinemas and online this Christmas, and the critical reception so far has been mixed. Read on to find out what Hollywood critics thought of the headline-grabbing movie:

Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

"I don't know any political satire that could carry the burden of repping free expression in America. The Interview certainly can't. Its mission is merely to make audiences piss themselves laughing. At that it succeeds. It's killer funny. Even when the jokes miss, or grow repetitive, you can't help rooting for it...

"In the end, The Interview hits the sweet spot for raunchy fun and spiky lampooning because Franco and Rogen are effing hilarious and fearless about swinging for the fences. It's the American way."

Ferrell plays a rich investment banker named James King, who is sentenced to prison for stealing millions of dollars from clients. With 30 days until he’s convicted, he seeks out the help of a conceived street-savy ex-convict Darnell (Hart) to toughen him up and get him prepared for his prison sentence. The funny twist is that Darnell has never been to prison and sets up bizarre prison scenario’s for King as a result.

This is the directorial debut of screenwriter Eaten Cohen (Idiocracy, Tropic Thunder, Men in Black III) and has a strong supporting cast featuring comedian sweetheart Allisone Brie, T.I., Paul Ben-Victor, »

Kevin Hart schools Will Ferrell on how to survive prison in this brand new trailer for Get Hard.

When millionaire hedge fund manager James (Will Ferrell) is nailed for fraud and bound for a stretch in San Quentin, the judge gives him 30 days to get his affairs in order. Desperate, he turns to Darnell (Kevin Hart) to prep him for a life behind bars. But despite James’ one-percenter assumptions, Darnell is a hard-working small business owner who has never received a parking ticket, let alone been to prison.

Together, the two men do whatever it takes for James to “get hard” and, in the process, discover how wrong they were about a lot of things – including each other. Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart join forces in the feature comedy Get Hard, also starring Tip “T.I.” Harris, Alison Brie, and Craig T. 'Get Hard' Trailer: Kevin Hart Teaches Will Ferrell How to Survive Prison

19 December 2014 5:00 PM, PST | Movies.com | See recent Movies.com news »

There's a joke in Horrible Bosses where the three dumb, would-be criminals turn to the first tough-looking guy they can find in a bar (Jamie Foxx) and assume he's a career criminal and as such try to ask him for advice on how to get away with murder. Well, Get Hard looks like that joke stretched out to an entire feature film, though that's not necessarily a bad thing, since this is the directorial debut of Idiocracy and Tropic Thunder screenwriter Etan Cohen. Get Hard stars Will Ferrell as a hedge fund millionaire who is about to be sent away to a maximum-security prison for committing fraud, and he's so scared of going to jail that he turns to the first nonwhite guy he can find (Kevin Hart) and wrongly assumes he's an expert on how to survive prison...

Will Ferrell Is Bound For San Quentin In First Trailer For Get Hard

19 December 2014 11:20 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Warner Bros. has revealed the first trailer for Will Ferrell’s upcoming comedy, Get Hard. From director Etan Cohen, the Gary Sanchez-produced pic looks primed to kickstart Ferrell’s slapstick antics, which have been sorely missing from the cinema calendar as of late.

In the movie, the former SNL star appears as hedge fund manager, James. When the millionaire is indicted for fraud, his impending stint in prison fills him with dread. Luckily, Kevin Hart’s Darnell is on hand to prepare James for all of the experiences that await him behind the bars of San Quentin.

With the first preview now available (via Yahoo! Movies), we’re able to get a sense of what’s in store for the timid chappie while he gets himself ready for prison life. As stories go, the premise overall isn’t that enticing. It simply sounds like a re-hash of countless other »

Kevin Hart Prepares Will Ferrell for Prison in Trailer for 'Get Hard'

19 December 2014 10:40 AM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

"Please, don't sexually assault me, I'm already to sad." After debuting in theaters with Horrible Bosses 2, the trailer for the Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart comedy Get Hard has arrived. While I was hopeful that a teaming of Ferrell with Hart might make my distaste for the latter comedy star go away, that's not even my biggest problem with this trailer. Whether this film had Kevin Hart or not, this just doesn't look that funny. There's a couple amusing moments like Ferrell sadly sitting in a massage chair while drinking a glass of wine, but right now this just feels like a "Saturday Night Live" sketch that will go on far too long. Watch? Here's the first trailer for Etan Coen's Get Hard, originally from Yahoo: Get Hard marks the feature directorial debut of Etan Cohen (writer of Men in Black III, Tropic Thunder, Idiocracy) with a script he »

Hilarious Trailer for Get Hard with Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart

19 December 2014 10:39 AM, PST | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart team up for an incredibly funny looking comedy called Get Hard, and today we have the first trailer for you to watch that I think you'll enjoy. The movie comes from Tropic Thunder writer Etan Cohen, and the story centers on a millionaire hedge fund manager (Ferrell), who is convicted of fraud. He then recruits the guy who washes his car (Hart) to help him prepare for prison.

There's a lot of great moments in this trailer. I just hope they saved the best stuff for the movie. In an interview with USA Today, Hart talks about the film and how they did a ton of improv:

“Come on, man, you have Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart, you know doggone well we’re not staying on the script. There was tons of improv. Sometimes it would fall flat, and then we’d nail it — home run. »

Get Hard Trailer: Will Ferrell Enlists Kevin Hart to Prepare Him for Prison

19 December 2014 9:53 AM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Warner Bros. has released the first Get Hard trailer for the upcoming crime comedy.  Marking the directorial debut of Tropic Thunder and Men in Black 3 scribe Etan Cohen, the film stars Will Ferrell as a Bernie Madoff-type wealthy investment banker who enlists the man who washes his car (Kevin Hart) to help prepare him for a maximum security prison sentence.  The comedic pairing of Ferrell and Hart was already enough to make this worth seeing, but thankfully the movie also looks to be genuinely good.  There's a twist on the premise as described that feels like a nice touch to keep it from feeling outdated (or offensive, really), and unsurprisingly there are more than a couple of really funny moments on display in this first look trailer. Watch the first Get Hard trailer after the jump.  The film also stars Tip “T.I.” Harris, Alison Brie, and Craig T. Nelson. »

Watch: Kevin Hart Prepares Will Ferrell For Jail Time In The First Trailer For ‘Get Hard’

19 December 2014 9:48 AM, PST | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Will Ferrell has basically made movies out of any number of thin sketches of ideas he’s ever had. What about the prospect of being sentenced to a term at a maximum-security jail where you know you’re toast once you’re inside? Yep, that too! The idea is a nightmare for many, and Ferrell is tackling that concept head on, alongside other notions of race and class, with “Get Hard.” The comedy, directed by Etan Cohen (the screenwriter of “Men In Black 3” and “Tropic Thunder,” making his directorial debut here) is about a Bernie Madoff figure played by Ferrell. He’s nailed for fraud and about to be sent up the river, so in a panic he tries to hire the first African-American he meets with the misguided assumption they’ll know how to “get hard” for prison time. But the first African-American man he meets, played by Kevin Hart, »

Kevin Hart helps Will Ferrell Get Hard in this first trailer

19 December 2014 7:26 AM, PST | JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news »

Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart are two actors who fall into the love 'em or hate 'em category in movies. Ferrell seems to more often be in the love area while there is a lot of hate for Kevin Hart's brand of humor. Personally, I see potential in Kevin Hart if he were to find the right project, but I do see how people could find him annoying. Chances are Get Hard is not going to do much to change that. In the first trailer for Tropic Thunder screenwriter Etan Cohen's directorial debut, Hart »

30 years since Gremlins: Stars of the Christmas cult classic then and now

Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas without a heavily tinseled tree, a tipple before midday and Gremlins on the telly at some point during the day.

The Joe Dante-directed black cult comedy sees protagonist Billy Peltzer being gifted with Gizmo, a cute furry Mogwai discovered by his inventor father in a mysterious Chinatown antique store.

Of course the creature comes with three special instructions which, if not adhered to, result in the spawning of grizzly Gremlins hell-bent on havoc.

The Steven Spielberg-produced movie - which is

currently being fast-tracked by Warner Bros for a remake - celebrated its 30th anniversary earlier this year, and here's what the main cast members got up to after the movie's success:

Zach Galligan plays William 'Billy' Peltzer who becomes enthralled by his unusual Christmas gift - yet careless with the three golden Gizmo rules.

7 Things We Need From ‘Zoolander 2′

21 November 2014 9:16 AM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

We’ve been hearing rumors about a second Zoolander feature for what seems like years now — hey, it has actually been whole years! — and while we never exactly gave up hope that we would (one day!) suck back another hot batch of orange mocha Frappuccinos with the gang again, we haven’t been holding our breath on the feature. Turns out, that’s a good thing! We, like, totally would have died! But Zoolander 2 does apparently live, and it’s started casting to prove it. Deadline reports that Zoolander 2, set to be directed by star Ben Stiller and with a script by Justin Theroux (remember, he penned Tropic Thunder for Stiller), will feature a part for Penelope Cruz of all starlets, with Stiller back as the Blue Steel-faced model moron, and rumors that we can expect to see both Owen Wilson and Will Ferrell back for more vigorously persisting.
