***SPOILERS*** Taking a stroll into his old neighborhood in the lower east side of Manhattan private investigator Mike Barnett accidentally disrupts a robbery that one of the persons he once busted Jimmy was working as a look-out for the robbers. This local gang run by Sam the Man Mansfield is now determined to get Barnett knocked off to keep him from finding out about their operation and use the dim witted Jimmy to do it for them.
Jimmy using the excuse that his sister is being abused by her husband has Barnett as well as himself try to break into the couples apartment in a condemned building on the east side to catch him in the act and have him arrested. The real plan is to get Barnett alone on the fire escape and have jimmy push him down when he isn't looking. This hair brain plan falls completely apart when Barnett realizes that its a trap set for him as well as Jimmy screwing it up by having Barnett turns the tables on him when he in fact got shot by Sam the Man to keep him from talking.
***SPOILERS**** On the run from Sam the Man and his boys Barnett breaks into this apartment of a silly old man who's pile of junk and newspapers-dating back to the early 1900's-he has stored in cluttered apartment to fight off Sam the Man and his gang with one of which ends up dead flaying down some five flights of the old mans fire escape. As for Sam the Man he gave up quietly when he ran out of bullets as well as guts if in fact he ever had any knowing that Mike Barnett wasn't anyone to fool around with. P.S Actor Richaed W. Shankland who played the silly and what seemed like stricken with Alzheimer disease old man who looked like he was well into his to late 90's died on January 18, 1953 three months before this episode of "Man Against Crime" was broadcast who was actually 49 years old at the time of his death!
