Kidnap: new trailer for Halle Berry's action thriller

24 August 2016 12:20 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Ryan Lambie Aug 24, 2016

Halle Berry drives quickly in the new trailer for the action thriller, Kidnap...

We've seen plenty of Hollywood actors attempt to emulate Liam Neeson's success with the action thriller Taken, including Kevin Costner in 3 Days To Kill and Mel Gibson in this year's Blood Father. But how about Halle Berry as an otherwise normal parent whose life is thrown through a loop when her son goes missing in a busy playground? That's the nightmare scenario presented in Kidnap, the forthcoming thriller from Spanish director Luis Prieto (he previously brought us the Pusher remake).

Okay, so Kidnap doesn't quite have the neck-snappings and discharged guns of the Taken series, but it has plenty of car chases and, in true Neeson style, Berry gets her own, "You've messed with the wrong person" monologue to the bad guys. From what we can gather, the movie takes the form of »

Halle Berry Has No Time to Wait in the Trailer for Kidnap

23 August 2016 3:46 PM, PDT | Filmonic.com | See recent Filmonic news »

In the upcoming thriller Kidnap Halle Berry plays a mother ready to do anything to get her kidnapped son back, including going in reverse on a freeway. This is the sort of stuff that would make Taken Liam Neeson proud. But seriously, Kidnap seems to be in the same vein, and hopefully it has just the right amount of […]

Don't even think about kidnapping Halle Berry's son!

22 August 2016 2:17 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Clip It: Each day, Jon Davis looks at the world of trailers, featurettes, and clips and puts it all in perspective. If you were considering kidnapping Halle Berry's child, let this trailer stand as a warning: Don't do it. And by the way, what's wrong with you? Why are you even mulling that over?  Kidnap looks like a great B movie. And that's not an insult. B movies have a long and grand tradition in film. In fact, B movies are the true heart of American cinema. You probably know all this, but as a refresher, B movies used to be the shorter movies that theaters would play along with the main feature event. So if you went to the theater to see a period drama, you might have seen goofy shorts and reels about aliens and super heroes. Of course, now those B movies, thanks to George Lucas, »

Halle Berry will do anything to save her son in first trailer for Kidnap

Halle Berry will do anything to save her son in first trailer for KidnapHalle Berry will do anything to save her son in first trailer for KidnapAdriana Floridia8/22/2016 11:01:00 Am

Somebody kidnapped the wrong kid.

In the first trailer for Kidnap, Halle Berry returns to her action roots in playing the fiercest mom we've ever seen. In what looks to be almost a spin on the Liam Neeson film, Taken, here it's a mother who will do anything to save her child, who is kidnapped at the park.

The trailer showcases epic car chases and non-stop action, as this woman is pushed to the edge while everyone around her is extremely unhelpful. We can't wait to see Berry giving it her all as an unstoppable mother.

Check out the first trailer for Kidnap below, and see the film in Cineplex theatres on December 2nd.

Deadpool 2 Wants Liam Neeson as Cable?

16 August 2016 12:34 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Production is supposed to start early next year on Deadpool 2, so things are going to ramp up in terms of casting in the very near future. We know that Ryan Reynolds will be back as Wade Wilson, so that is solid, but the role of the mutant Cable still needs to be filled, and the hunt is on. A new rumor suggests that Fox may want Oscar nominated actor and Taken star Liam Neeson for the role.

Recently, it came to light that Bloodline star Kyle Chandler was being eyed for the role of Cable. According to Heroic Hollywood's Umberto Gonzalez on Twitter, Chandler is in the running, but that is who director Tim Miller wants, and not who the studio wants. When a fan asked what star the studio was interested in, Gonzalez wasn't shy about it, dropping Liam Neeson's name very bluntly. Here is what he had to say. »

‘In Order of Disappearance’ Exclusive Clip: Father Avenges His Son’s Murder In Norwegian Black Comedy

16 August 2016 7:00 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Though it might seem like Liam Neeson has all claim to avenging a child in the “Taken” series, the Norwegian action black comedy “In Order of Disappearance” proves that there’s plenty more to be mined from such a premise. Described as a cross between “Fargo” and “Taken,” “In Order of Disappearance” follows snow plow diver Nils (Stellan Skarsgård) who discovers his son has died of a supposed heroin overdose. Knowing his son was not a drug addict, Nils starts his own investigation and discovers a local drug gang is behind the crime. Soon, Nils finds the killers and the gang’s leader, but not before being caught in the crossfire between the local and Serbian gangs. The film also stars Bruno Ganz (“The Wings of Desire”), Birgitte Hjort Sørensen (“Borgen”), Kristofer Hivju (“Game of Thrones”), and more. Watch an exclusive clip from the film below.

Trends and the Lack of Originality in Hollywood

13 August 2016 7:30 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Eric Bay-Andersen on trends and the lack of originality in Hollywood…

At the beginning of this year I went to the cinema and saw a preview of all the big films coming out in 2016, and it really depressed me because almost every upcoming ‘event’ film was a sequel, a re-boot, or a prequel to the re-imagined spin-off of a TV show adaptation! It’s gotten to the point where I even get disheartened by book adaptations, which is silly I know because there are so many great published stories out there that are worthy of being adapted for the big-screen. I guess I just find it sad that most film-makers these days seem to look to the best-sellers list for their inspiration, rather than their own imagination. I mean, if a new book comes out and is a big success, then of course someone will make it into a film at some point, »

Movie Review – The Shallows (2016)

The Shallows, 2016.

Directed by Jaume Collett-Serra.

Starring Blake Lively.

Synopsis:

A mere 200 yards from shore, surfer Nancy is attacked by a great white shark, with her short journey to safety becoming the ultimate contest of wills.

Whatever you do, don’t go in the water. Back in 1975, a young director by the name of Steven Spielberg made almost every other person in the world fearful of the ocean after a certain shark-themed film ripped though cinema screens and Amity Island. We’ve always been fascinated with sharks on the big screen, whether as big bads, animated and voiced by Robert De Niro or part of an oncoming tornado, though we all know which one we all prefer.

Now comes The Shallows, the new film from director Jaume Collet-Serra who takes a break from trekking across Europe lensing Liam Neeson in countless Taken rehashes to tackle some more economical but endlessly »

Top 10 Box Office Takeaways: How ‘Suicide Squad’ Beat Bad Reviews

7 August 2016 3:02 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

With “Suicide Squad,” Warner Bros. and D.C. Comics for the second time delivered an opening competitive with a Disney/Marvel superhero movie. Its strong August-record-breaking $135 million debut also kept the recent late summer rebound alive. The question is: Will it hold or suffer the fate of  “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and fade quickly? Whatever its future, “Suicide Squad” marks a welcome start late in a bumpy summer.

Part of that seasonal trend  is steep early-week drops for some live-action franchises—neither “Jason Bourne” nor “Star Trek Beyond” show much strength after strong openings. And Stx boasts a sleeper comedy hit driven by women– “Bad Moms” is thriving and looks to have a shot at reaching as much as $100 million.

‘Nine Lives’ Review: Kevin Spacey Is Transformed Into A Cat In This Neutered Family Comedy From Hell

5 August 2016 8:05 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Less funny than the average cat gif and approximately 1,000 times as long, the astonishingly stupid “Nine Lives” is too fluffy and frivolous to be the worst movie of the summer, but it might just be the laziest. Directed by Barry Sonnenfeld (“Men in Black”) and written by one of the finest algorithms money can buy, this derivative story about the very secret lives of pets is quite possibly the worst thing to happen to cats since dogs. “Cat’s don’t care about you,” begins the film’s opening voiceover. Judging by the 89 minutes that follow, people don’t care about you all that much either.

Kevin Spacey (“K-Pax”), who is apparently being severely underpaid for his work in “House of Cards,” stars as Tom Brand, a New York real estate titan who likes to put his name on buildings, hire his children in key positions, and treat people so »

Just in time for the release of “Jason Bourne,” the fourth Matt Damon-starring film in the “Bourne” franchise, Screen Junkies has released the Honest Trailer for The Bourne Trilogy. The trailer notes that “the kid from ‘Good Will Hunting’ can kick some serious ass” and adds that he “makes James Bond look really, really old.”

Warrior's Gate Trailer: Why Aren't We Talking About this Luc Besson Fantasy?

27 July 2016 3:30 PM, PDT | Screen Anarchy | See recent Screen Anarchy news »

Warrior's Gate is essentially The Last Starfighter re-imagined as an epic Chinese fantasy. In it, a teenager is magically transported to China where he learns to convert his video game skills into those of a Kung Fu warrior. While that's kind of a weird premise, it's even weirder that nobody is talking about the film despite the fact that two trailers have dropped and they look pretty darn great.  Warrior's Gate is a Chinese/French co-production between EuropaCorp and Fundamental Film. The two also partnered on Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets which recently made a splash at Comic Con and is getting a significantly bigger push.  The film was written by Besson and long time collaborator Robert Mark Kamen (Taken, The Fifth Element) and...

Liam Neeson Barks Orders In First Trailer For Korean War Movie Operation Chromite

21 July 2016 11:31 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

To say that Liam Neeson, the Northern Irish actor who has starred in everything from Schindler’s List to Taken, has enjoyed an interesting career may read as something of an understatement.

Before reinventing himself as a bona fide action hero in the Pierre Morel’s Parisian thriller, Neeson was synonymous with the industry’s more awards-friendly features, and there are signs that the actor is poised to return to that niche (read: Martin Scorsese’s Oscar-tipped Silence). Then comes something entirely out of left-field, such as Korean war thriller Operation Chromite.

Helmed by Lee Jae-han, the white-knuckle ride sees Neeson barking orders as General Douglas MacArthur, who spearheads a Us-endorsed mission to infiltrate a North Korean commander center. That’s a tactic that involves sending Lee Jung-jae out onto the front lines, who fights for the South Korean forces and, perhaps more importantly, to protect his mother.

"Taken" Helmer Hits A "Big Stone Grid"

17 July 2016 5:02 AM, PDT | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

"Taken" director Pierre Morel has come on board to helm the hard-edged cop thriller "Big Stone Grid" with plans to shoot the project next year.

The story follows two decorated detectives who uncover a terrifying extortion ring of serial killers that operates within the secret underbelly of New York. Morel will direct from a script by "Bone Tomahawk" writer S. Craig Zahler.

The project was previously setup at Sony Pictures with Michael De Luca producing and, at one time, had Michael Mann in talks to direct and do a script polish. That didn't come together and now Lotus Entertainment has picked it up after the property went into turnaround.

Bill Johnson, Jim Seibel, Ara Keshishian, Adam Fields and Josh Bratman are producing.
