If George Lazenby had died before 1994 . . .
17 September 2014 | by (Jacksonville, FL) – See all my reviews

. . . he'd have turned over in his grave upon hearing GOLDENEYE director Martin Campbell refer here to just THREE Eon Production Company iterations of Agent 007, a.k.a. "James Bond" prior to GOLDENEYE's star, Pierce Brosnan. He means, of course, Sean Connery (James I), Sir Roger Moore (James III), and Timothy Dalton (James IV). This off-hand dismissal relegates the kilted George Lazenby (James II) to Lady Jane Grey Dudley status. Lazenby's one ill-fated outing as Bond in ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE (the worst movie title ever) is directly proportional--given the countless subsequent Bond flicks--to the reign duration of "the Nine Day's Queen," compared to British history in its entirety. Film experts contend that during ON HER MAJESTY's shoot (Oct. 1968-May 1969) Mr. Lazenby put on so many queenly airs that he would have followed in Lady Jane's footsteps to the chopping block, if Bond producers had had any say in the matter. But just as a well-educated teenager was "Queen for a Day" (actually, July 10-19, 1553), a bloke in a frilly white blouse and skirt played Bond for a flick. It's a good thing director Campbell sublimated George from his memory banks when he set upon BUILDING A BETTER BOND.
