[first lines]
Lex Luthor: Just look at him. So sleek. So powerful. So... beautiful, like some great golden god made flesh. Of course, any sensible god would demand absolute obedience in return for his favor. But, no, our Man of Steel protects us, with no strings attached. The people? Hmph. They practically worship him anyway. Enjoy your reign while you may, Superman. For surely as night follows day, there comes a time when even gods must die.

Disappointed but not surprised
7 August 2010 | by (Germany) – See all my reviews

I rarely let a movie, cartoon or animated series based on a comic book pass me by. Yes, I'm a comic book-geek. In fact, a geek to such extent that I watch animated features without ever watching the trailers, simply because I fear that something may be given away. In this one case, I wish I would have watched the trailer first and read the reviews because than I would have decided to skip this mini-flick and would have been happy ever after.

If anything, it makes you wonder how the executives and producers of DC-based cartoons think. Following scenario comes to mind: "Let's hire a staff that has not connection to comic books what-so-ever ... no, hold that thought! Let's hire a team that has knowledge of the material but hates comic-books and thrives on ruining the experience for the fans! Let them assemble a film of which they are sure that the fans will hate it and then give them a budget and all the artistic freedom they desire! So, the fans of the comic would like the Justice League to appear, just like in the comic? Forget it! A giant spider and some scrawny little-league villain – hey, how about Starro? Nah, too glorious … right, the Toyman it is – is good enough for the likes. The 'Reign of the Superman' storyline was popular among the readers? Alright, let's scrap that storyline too! What about the origin of Doomsday and the Eradicator which takes up a good portion of Kryptonian history? To complex! Will just convolute the film – remember: we're ONLY shooting a cartoon that's short of 80 minutes here. Let's skip all that and turn Doomsday into what Young and Old alike enjoy: a Robot!" What's left is a treasure-box full of epic story lines – from 'Crisis on Infinity Earth' right down to 'Kingdom Come' and 'Blackest Night". Enough to keep an army of animators and producers churning out quality animated features for decades to come. But we're not getting to see them – just yet. It may take many-a year until the DC producers come to their senses, stop alienating the fans and produce the quality animation features that do the comics honour and start producing the quality animation features that the fans want.

And then they wonder why fans steal the movies from the internet rather than buying or renting them. Answer is simple: so they can delete them after having watched the first ten minutes.
