The title is a reference to Polycarp of Smyrna (69-155) was a Christian bishop of Smyrna (now Izmir in Turkey) in the second century. He died a martyr when he was stabbed after an attempt to burn him at the stake failed. Polycarp is recognized as a saint in both the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches.See more »
Goofs:
Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): Despite the assertions of several characters, Polycarp is never actually mentioned in Revelation, or anywhere else in the Bible. The chief sources of information concerning Polycarp are four: the authentic epistles of Ignatius of Antioch, which include one to Polycarp; Polycarp's own Epistle to the Philippians; passages in Irenaeus' Adversus Haeresis; and the letter of the Smyrnaeans recounting the martyrdom of Polycarp. However, Polycarp was known as a transmitter and authenticator of Revelation in a period when the gospels and epistles were just beginning to achieve acceptance.See more »

Sometimes you just want to watch a sleazy B movie even if you are warned that it is really low budget. You just want some serial killer sleaze to watch mindlessly.
Lots of naked bodies, aberrant sex, and gore: all combined to make a film that will never see a theater screen, but will make a good slasher film for the aficionados.
Don't look for anything more, because there isn't anything. No great acting, not even good acting. No storyline that makes any real sense. Things just seem to jump all over the place.
Charles Durning will not be adding to his long list of award nominations with his appearance in this film.
