When Monroe reveals to the Rushes that their home used to be a brothel, they discover that a US president once visited there as a client (the gang thinks it's Harry S. Truman). This, in turn, helps bolster their case that their home is a historical landmark and could avoid demolition. But when former sex worker Sally Ruth (played by
Carol Bruce), who was employed in the house during that time, shows up and explains some specifics. She corroborates that a former president indeed visited there not once, but at least twice, saying it wasn't Truman and that the president in question had a stamina problem. Although it's never revealed who the president actually was, considering Bruce's real-life age and when Ruth would have worked there, it's quite likely that the president in question was Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who in reality had several extra-marital affairs and was in deteriorating health much of his adult life.
