Storyline

Death threats against David Marchmont, a decorated former officer now standing for Parliament, are assumed to be the work of Irish nationalists. Cork and Marriott are present when a shot narrowly misses Marchmont, fired by a soldier from his regiment newly returned to England, but it is not politics that had lain behind the attempt. The survivors of the action that saw Captain Marchmont awarded the VC have a different view of events, and are determined that he should face justice at their hands.
