Fantastic !!
ebiros226 December 2012
Korean movies has made a stellar rise in quality in the 21st century much like the way Hong Kong movies did in the '80s. This movie is one of the best example of these excellent Korean movies.

A very likely story of a girl going through love troubles, and a very unlikely story of her getting involved with the head of her company comprises the plot of this funny, and very well made movie. The movie has drama, comedy, romance, and good acting. Production is super clean and each scene has opulence to it.

The drama, and romance is as good or better than any Hollywood movies produced. It's envious that people of Korea can contemplate on making a movie with romance like this.

This movie is a must see if you are an Asian drama, or a romantic comedy fan.

Good for a short movie

Warning: Spoilers
This is a 107 minute South Korean romantic comedy movie that goes also by an alternate title Seducing Mr. Robin. It was released in 2006. and is unique in one character speaks mostly English throughout the movie.

Min-June is a hopeless romantic who gives all her heart to each relationship only to be hurt when the guys reject her. On the eve of her latest break-up she stumbles into traffic and is hit, ironically, by a man that turns out to be her new boss. When she explains why she was not paying attention, Robin Heiden (Daniel Henley) is full of advice on the game of love which he sees as a win or lose power struggle between the couple. Desperate to change the outcome of her relationships Min-june originally listens to Robin until she decides that his methods are not for her.

Spoiler 🚨 I liked the unique quality of him speaking English and her, and others, speaking South Korean. It was cute if predictable. As short as it was there was little time for much depth to the story. It reminded me of the US "He's Just Not That Into You" I forgot I had seen this actress in a Witch's Romance and really liked her in that. If your expectations are not too high - it is good for what it is.

It could have been good
hassannaseeb30 December 2020
The whole movie was an 8 or 9 at max up until the last 3 MINUTES!! I mean it seems to me that the director said "enough with it, just end it right now!"

I mean he confessed his feelings in the end while still maintaining his cold attitude and she without any self-respect just accepted him.

And then came the last scene. I mean seriously that was the most abrupt ending i have ever seen in a movie.

6/10 only because of me watching this movie because of Uhm Jung-hwa

Surprisingly charming
phd_travel30 October 2020
This is a nice rom com spoken in Korean and English tailor made for the cast. Uhm Jung Hwa is a good actress and speaks English well. She makes her character sympathetic. Daniel Henney sometimes look he is posing but he is just right for the role. It is funny in a surprising way.

A Pretty Good Korean Romantic-Comedy
Uriah4315 March 2015
"Min Jun" (Jeong-hwa Eom) is preoccupied while driving on her way to work one morning and accidentally rear-ends the car in front of her which is stopped at a red light. When the driver, "Robin Heiden" (Daniel Henney) gets out to collect her insurance information Min Jun (aka "June") pretends not to be able to speak English. As luck would have it Robin sees through her ploy and after obtaining the necessary information continues on his way. That same morning June is taken to meet the new manager of the conglomerate in which she works and it turns out that her new boss is-Robin Heiden. Obviously, it's just not her day--and things are about to become even worse. Now rather than give away any more of the story and risk ruining the film for those who haven't seen it I will just say that this was a pretty good Korean romantic-comedy. I especially liked the performance of Miss Jeong-hwa Eom who was both funny and adorable as well. In any case, provided a person doesn't mind watching a film in another language with English subtitles then this is a fine addition to the rom-com genre and definitely worth the time spent. Above average.

Good but predictable & could be shorter
Musicianmagic18 April 2020
It is funny in some parts. Some. Touching in some. Some. But there are times where you know where its going and wish they'd hurry up and go there. Its not just the ending you figured out five minutes in. It is certain scenes that play out way too long towards their inevitable conclusion. Makes this movie way too long. Its not giving anything away. Boy meets girl and seem to hate each other. You know the rest.

Another Pretty Woman
thesar-222 December 2023
Well, "perfect" is a bit much. In looks, definitely a 9. 9½, perhaps.

From the moment this movie began, I got Pretty Woman-vibes. Yes, even before the plot was revealed. And then I was justified, even down to the female-love interest being paid by the male-half. Though...not as a prostitute.

Super-strict President of a worldwide-based firm travels from USA to Korea to settle a deal and in the meantime, he gives harsh/realistic love advice to his assigned assistant. Will they/won't they before he has to travel back home?

While NOWHERE near as good as Pretty Woman, it still has its charms and chemistry between the leads. It's also not as deep or funny, but I did laugh at times. It's cute and harmless, except for the length. A good 15 repetitive minutes could've been cut. Especially several unnecessary/redundant subplots that were just more roadblocks for their romance.

I liked it and would recommend it. Seen better, but seeing the absolute Henney Hunk for nearly 2 hours was something I wouldn't mind seeing again.

***

Final Thoughts: This was SOOO close to the Julia Roberts Romcom, the title character was literally channeling Richard Gere. If I didn't already know Asian actor Daniel Henney was born in the USA and spoke all his own mostly-in-English dialogue, I'd swore it was dubbed over by Richard Gere. They both sound exactly the same and even share the same mannerisms.

Fantastic Movie .. a MUST watch
outfun29 October 2007
This is a fantastic movie. An out and out Mills & Boon romance with a dash of comedy keeps us entertained from the first scene to the end. Superb direction by Sang-Woo Kim (Nominated for this pic for the Best Director - Grand Bell Award.) Great cinematography. Fantastic acting by the hero, Daniel Henney (nominated for this pic in the Best New Actor category), as the (ultimate, M&B hero) boss and Jeong-hwa Eom as his Analyst Assistant who is a softie when it comes to love and is a prime candidate for being dumped by her boyfriends.

The chemistry by the two leading actors is as excellent as the chemistry between Richard Gere and Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. A must see movie for all Mills & Boon readers and Romance movie fans. Go fall in love!!!!!!!

So disappointing
literacy20079 March 2019
The lead actors are adorable and the premise charming, but this movie simply did not live up to its potential. The plot was difficult to follow and would jump from one scene to another with little or no explication. The plot had major holes and characters were insufficiently drawn. It was often difficult to know a character's connection to the protagonist. One character in particular seemed to jump back-and-forth between mere longtime friend, former girlfriend, and former girlfriend trying to become girlfriend again. Motivations were fuzzy. The whole movie was so choppy that you had to wonder if the editor was under the weather when he or she decided what to leave in and what to take out. Really pretty awful movie.

An unexpected delight
kasenero197312 February 2015
I had never heard of this film. This film kinda reminded me of He Is Not That Into You. Like in that movie(HINTIY), Min-jun is not relationship savvy. She tries her best, but the harder she tries, it just seems to push them away. In comes Mr Robin Heiden who is not so nice in giving her unwanted advice in all things she is doing wrong. I found this film funny, tender and the romance sprinkled through out the film in such a perfect way that each time those moments came, they took my breath away. I suggest that someone please write something more current for Daniel Henney(playing Robin Heiden in the film, he is such a delight to watch. I couldn't wait for this film to be over, just so that I could see it again ;-P

Boring
roxana-parvan21 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I really think the previous 2 reviewers must be related, paid endorsers or something of the kind.....To say that this film is "Fantastic" is really the overstatement of the year! It was so boring, I really, honestly struggled and pleaded with myself to get to the end of it, just because I hate leaving things unfinished. Very predictable, uninspired.... all bad things combined! I don't think it took more than 1 week to film.... The dialogue was probably written by a 5-year old! The greatest professional achievement of the female lead is that she tells a completely irrelevant story, out of the blue, so that she can "save" a business deal ?! and after that they all act like she should get the Nobel prize or something! seriously?! Daniel Henney cannot act to save his life! I always got the impression he didn't understand what he was replying to..... and it probably the case.... Uhm Jung-hwa is a very good actress, and it's a shame she didn't get the chance to show it. Complete waste of time!

Ok, down-graded.
cnavata217718 February 2019
It went from a 5 stars at the midpoint of the movie to a 4 by the end. What WAS that ending? She consider THAT a declaration of love?!?! Or even like? And what's with the conversation with the family? Why do that if he wasn't proposing? They should have kept it to themselves then. Even if he didn't know that, SHE should have. That just annoyed me. And--Daniel, I'm sorry!--he made a great imitation of a log; a piece of wood that talked. So awkward to see no chemistry between the leads.

Hilarious; Unexpected!!
asthab1 November 2014
I was not very sure about this movie. The name was tempting, but the lead actor and actress were new for me. I decided to give it a shot nevertheless. And oh boy! I was not disappointed. I have already seen this one twice - because its one of those movies that you can see again and again without getting bored. The comedy timings are perfect. The chemistry between the lead pair is very convincing. The character of lead actress is such that anyone can relate to it. And the guy is hot!! The plot - its unique one and the source of all the fun here. It has all the ingredients to be an awesome movie - and it just is. Treat yourselves.

No chemistry.
cnavata217717 February 2019
Meh. There was no chemistry between the leads. I'm watching it and their interactions are lifeless IMO. Finishing it because even though it's pretty bad, DH is still pretty interesting to look at. Am I objectifying? Absolutely.

Horribly boring
fati8816 March 2017
It's one of the worst movies i've ever seen, especially when it comes to south Korean movies which are so enjoyable . The 2 actor's chemistry was horrible , the acting was superficial , everything was in the wrong place. It's the only South Korean movie that i didn't like so far , there is nothing more to say about it , it's just "waste of time".

Maybe give it a watch if you have around 107 minutes to spare and are a huge fan of Uhm Jung-Hwa.
abhijith-alpha24 October 2020
As a movie, this doesn't have anything original or special about it. The story is a straightforward comedy-romance banking on the star power of Uhm Jung-Hwa and her chemistry with Daniel Henney, who play the leads. Min-June (Jung-Hwa) is a lawyer/legal-aid/secretary working for a Japanese firm, which is in the process of being taken over by a company led by Robin Heiden (Henney). She is a somewhat clingy woman who believes in true love, and can't understand why men keep dumping her. Robin is a "practical" man whose view of relationships go the opposite way. They have a chance meeting in Hong Kong, where Min-June crashes her car onto Robin's. Once she's back in Korea, she realises Robin is her new boss. The premise of the movie is that Robin tutors Min-June in the ways of modern relationships, as she tries to win back her flighty ex-boyfriend, and in the process, fall in love with each other. The movie takes its time to even get to the "tutoring" part, with plenty of time spent in mildly interesting interactions between Min-June and Robin, as she tries to "seduce" him with her wholesome ways, while he sees her every move coming a mile away and makes fun of her, thus proving his points. Finally, he offers to tutor her, and Min-June successfully wins back her ex, Jun Hyeong. But even as he's with her Jun Hyeong says something about the new Min-June, which leads to her realising that she can't be someone who views relationships as power games. She breaks up with him, and the rest of the movie is dealt with minor misunderstandings on the way to the happy ending. Apparently this was a hugely popular film in Korea, and one of the attractions was due to the fact the intriguing bilingual dynamic between the Korean-speaking Min-June and English-speaking Robin. Also important is the fact that Uhm Jung-hwa, who can be safely called the First Lady of k-pop, similar to what Madonna is in American pop, was going through a purple patch of successful movies in the prime of her movie career. This is definitely an important entry in her filmography, as well as Daniel Henney's. Other than that, there's nothing special to talk about. It could have done with better screenplay and editing, as there are parts that needed to be longer, especially the one where Min-June's relationships with her family members are explored, and Robin Henney's past relationships, as there's nothing much in the movie other than a few pieces of dialogue which delves into the reason behind his attitude towards relationships. There were plenty of parts that could've been cut short as well.
