The Steiner Brothers had already defeated the Fabulous Freebirds (Michael Hayes and Jimmy Garvin) for the WCW World Tag Team Titles at a TV taping on February 18, 1991, six days before this PPV, giving the Freebirds a rare negative title reign.

The Horsemen (Flair/Windham/Sid/Zbyszko)-Sting/Pillman/Steiners War Games match was the second War Games on PPV and the first time that the heel team, in this case the Horsemen, won it, something that would not happen again until the NWO-WCW War Games at WCW Fall Brawl 96.
