Horrors Abound In New ‘Carrie’ Motion Poster

36 minutes ago | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Kimberly Peirce may not have been first name many would have thought about helming a modern-set remake of 1976 horror classic Carrie, but when you consider her work on tragic drama Boys Don’T Cry, she’s perfect. Who better to bring us the emotional angst of a meek and troubled young girl dealing with her changing body, alongside her attempts at fitting in at high-school and a religious nut of a mother, than the director who brought out a stunning Oscar-winning performance from Hilary Swank.

Of course, when it comes to the crutch of Stephen King’s celebrated best-seller, previously turned into a masterpiece by Brian DePalma, it’s all about revenge when Carrie White’s new found telekinetic powers come in handy on Prom Night. Wiping the smiles off many faces after being ridiculed.

Carrie hits Us cinemas from the 18th October and the UK 29th November. Chloë Grace Moretz takes the title role, »

Happy Mother’s Day From ‘Carrie’ In New Motion Poster!

11 May 2013 7:29 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

It’s not often a horror remake lands a super cast and filmmaker but luckily for fans of Stephen King’s best-seller Carrie (previously adapted into the 1976 masterpiece by Brian DePalma), Oscar-nominated filmmaker Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don’T Cry) should be the perfect candidate to bring us the modernised version of the troubled telekinetic teen. The young girl pushed to the limit come Prom Night.

To celebrate Mother’s Day in the Us, Screen Gems has revealed this brand new CinemaMosaic poster from the film starring Chloë Grace Moretz, Judy Greer, Portia Doubleday, Alex Russell, Gabriella Wilde, Ansel Elgort and Julianne Moore. After all, Carrie White is a (tortured) mummy’s girl!

Carrie is unleashed in Us cinemas 18th October and the UK from 29th November.

And when a random text from Jess’ first lover gets the gang to ‘fess up about their first times doing the no-pants dance, we get a very funny episode full of gawky flashbacks and cringeworthy accounts – as well as a closing sequence sure to launch 1,000 GIFs. Let’s review who what went down in “Virgins.”

The Tuesday Playlist: Funny Ladies, ABC's Knox Exclusive, Grimm's New Night

30 April 2013 7:22 AM, PDT | TVGuide - Breaking News | See recent TVGuide - Breaking News news »

Everyone's losing it — or more to the point, remembering how they lost it — on one of this season's more uproarious episodes of Fox's New Girl, a reminder of just how potent the comic chemistry can be between Zooey Deschanel and her BFFs when they all hang together, sharing embarrassing stories (some more mortifying than others) about how their "innocence" (such as it never was) was stolen. This episode (Tuesday, 8:58/7:58c) will be especially enjoyable for fans of Max Greenfield's Fat Schmidt slapstick and for those who've been waiting for Lamorne Morris' Winston to emerge from the sidelines and get some major Lol action. Jess (Deschanel) starts the trip down Painful Memory Lane with glimpses from Prom Night, which brings suitors including Teen Wolf's Dylan O'Brien (Stiles!) into her life. But it's Winston's grotesque hook-up and Fat Schmidt's messy night in college with the girlfriend who »

Mystic Falls loves a dance. From Founder’s Day to Miss Mystic, the town at the center of The Vampire Diaries holds gala events at the drop of a hat. Maybe it’s to distract everyone from the chaos and death surrounding them, maybe they get a really good deal on streamers and look for excuses to use ‘em, but at this point, there’s little doubt that the people of Mystic Falls know how to throw a party and the inclusion of a prom episode, »

Snow White's Poison Bite: 'Featuring Dr. Gruesome' – CD Review

25 April 2013 9:00 AM, PDT | FEARnet | See recent FEARnet news »

When I first came across this Finnish quartet via the music video “The End of Prom Night,” they were still experimenting with adding touches of horror imagery to a more mainstream brand of poppy post-hardcore – much in the mode of Black Veil Brides, but with a more playful dynamic. This year, I found the band stirring shock rock, horror punk, alt-metal and dark carnival ingredients into the stew for their new album, which goes by the whopper of a title Featuring Dr. Gruesome and the Gruesome Gory Horror Show, and for a split second I wasn't sure I was listening to the same guys... but I did like what I was hearing so far, so I dug deeper. When I caught the single “Will You Meet Me in the Graveyard?” with its accompanying lyric video packed with sick scenes from dozens of horror movies, the band finally landed my undivided attention. »

'42' Called Up to Box Office Big Leagues This Weekend

15 April 2013 3:01 PM, PDT | Box Office Mojo | See recent BoxOfficeMojo.com news »

Jackie Robinson biopic 42 got off to a very strong start this weekend, while Scary Movie 5 wound up opening even lower than already-low expectations. The Top 12 earned $108.8 million, which was slightly up from the same weekend last year.42 took first place with $27.5 million from 3,003 locations. That's easily the best opening ever for a baseball movie ahead of The Benchwarmers ($19.7 million) and Moneyball ($19.5 million). It's also the second-highest opening for a sports drama behind 2009's The Blind Side ($34.1 million). Warner Bros. is reporting that the audience was 52 percent female and 59 percent over the age of 35, and all demographic groups awarded the movie a rare "A+" CinemaScore. Combine the older crowds with the great word-of-mouth and it's entirely possible that 42 winds up earning close to $100 million by the end of its run, which will make this a huge success for Warner Bros. and producer Legendary Pictures. At 3,402 locations, Scary Movie 5 opened in second place with $14.2 million. »

Chicago Fire Spin-Off Keeps It Hot With Two New Faces

13 April 2013 10:36 AM, PDT | Boomtron | See recent Boomtron news »

Burn, baby burn! We’re receiving more and more reports as the police-centric proposed Chicago Fire spin-off gains momentum. Showmakers are adding fuel to the fire with some hot young faces. This is a project to keep your eye on, folks. Today you can say hello to Kelly Blatz and Melissa Sagemiller. The two new actors join Scott Eastwood and Tania Raymonde, who we reported just yesterday were circling the new drama.

It’s difficult to top the Law & Order franchise when it comes to the police procedural, but there’s always room for another cop drama and anyway, the anticipated Chicago Fire spin-off has two advantages in that department. For one thing, the man himself, Mr. Dick Wolf will be ushering the new show along in the right direction. For another, the Law & Order empire has never delved too deeply into the police officers personal lives, which might be »

FEARnet Movie Review: 'Stitches'

8 April 2013 12:00 PM, PDT | FEARnet | See recent FEARnet news »

You can see the DNA of several cool horror films in the recent Irish import known as Stitches. Its framework seems inspired by Prom Night (the 1980 original, not the witless remake); its tone and central conceit reminds one of the 1989 cult classic Killer Klowns from Outer Space; and the flick on the whole has a raunchy, visceral playfulness that evokes an endless variety of highly enjoyable but low-minded B-grade horror movies.

To make that a bit clearer: Conor McMahon's Stitches is not only a canny and clever homage to the slasher movie material we know and love, but it also strikes a surprisingly impressive balance between over-the-top gore explosions and nasty but highly amusing moments of comedy. Stitches is a horror flick first and foremost but it also works as a broad farce, an affectionate homage, and (at moments) a clever satire of all films in which stupid teens »
