Canadian Cult Cinema: The Overlooked & Underrated

21 April 2015 11:00 AM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

You love the horror, suspense thriller, action and science fiction films that make up the world of Canadian cult cinema affectionately known as Canuxploitation.

You’ve watched the entire David Cronenberg genre filmography (if not, please do so now as The Brood, Scanners and The Fly are three of the greatest horror films ever made).

You’ve seen Black Christmas and The Changeling and watched a slasher-ific marathon of Prom Night, Terror Train, Happy Birthday to Me and My Bloody Valentine.

You caught up with Cube, the Ginger Snaps series, Splice, Hobo with a Shotgun and WolfCop all while keeping close tabs on the works of Astron-6.

Yet your hunger for Canadian genre film productions and co-productions cannot be satiated.

To aid you in your deeper exploration of the field, following is a chronological look at a number of Canadian genre films that simply don’t get enough attention.

19 March 2015 2:15 PM, PDT | TooFab | See recent TooFab news »

Brittany Snow has a great sense of humor!  The "Pitch Perfect 2" actress stars in a brand new commercial for Lipton, where she freaks out on set after being fired by the director.  In the funny promo, the actress is auditioning for a spot in Lipton's "Bubble" commercial ... but things take a turn for the worse when she continues to mess up her lines and eventually loses her cool.  Turns out, this isn't the first time the "Prom Night" star has been dissed by a director! Snow revealed in a statement to toofab that, while she's never experienced anything quite as bad as the director in the commercial, she has been teased on set before.  "I don't think anyone has been that rude to me like the director in the spot was. I have been told by a director once... 'Ok, this time you did the scene wasn't That bad. »

'A Nightmare on Elm Street' (2010): A Defense

MoreHorror.com

You know what? I liked it. No, it has absolutely no bearing in the classic or on the better sequels produced, but I enjoyed it.

I Said, I Enjoyed This Movie!!! *beats chest*

Before I get pelted with criticism and "How Dar U!1!" messages, please indulge me.

I saw the original Elm Street when I was 24 years old, and by then, I had just about seen it all in terms of horror/gore/suspense. I got a buzz (tee hee) from the first 'Saw' and my perceptions about what was real and what was not changed when I watched the magnificent 'Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me'. So when I slapped Craven's seminal classic into the DVD player, I wasn't scared or shocked. Now please don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and I thought that Robert Englund is revered by horror lovers quite rightly. »
