The Vicar in White
studioAT1 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This should have been the end for this show, it was the perfect ending seeing the lonely Geraldine meet and marry the lovely Harry.

It's not a perfect final episode, it felt a bit stretched as a two parter, but there are more than enough brilliant lines and moments along the way.

Sadly this would not be the end though, and far too many charity sketches and lockdown specials have followed, rather undoing the neatly tied bow here.

One of the absolute best of the British Sitcoms

Warning: Spoilers
If you have never seen the Vicar of Dibley you are in for a treat. SPOILER! Richard Armitage guest stars in this episode and he and Dawn French together are simply amazing. Dawn French's comedic genius really shines. She is alternately bumbling and completely charming. This sitcom does contain some slapstick but it's so hilarious you won't believe you are laughing at such ridiculous stuff. When interviewed, Armitage said that he laughed outloud at the script and that is completely understandable. I've only seen him as a heavy before so it was a pleasure to see him in a comedy and let's face it, the man can act and is VERY easy on the eyes. Armitage plays off French like a blushing groom (which he is)and by the time it's over ALL of us are laughing and crying with the Vicar. Do yourself a favor and sit down and watch this entire episode. To the best of my knowledge, not yet available in the US but the minute it gets here, it will be on my DVD shelf right next to the period dramas and the other chick movies.

Brilliant pairing - shame they haven't done more episodes with them

I know this was intended as the VoD finale, but really they missed a trick not making Geraldine and Harry into a regular series - Dawn French and Richard Armitage are phenomenal together.

Great Show, Poor Ending
Xine9g922 December 2021
After the first three delightful series, Season 4 was OK, but less funny. The one is even weaker. And the final episode, unfortunately, fails. It falls into the maudlin from time to time. More significantly, the comedy is forced and silly, rather than funny. A real pity.

A Disappointing Ending - Unrealistic
ccampbellnz9 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A tall handsome stranger asking the vicar to marry him after only a few meetings? I love this show so much, but an unrealistic and disappointing end and just shows how desperate Dawn French is. It would have been better that she married David.

Finally over
skinnybert27 August 2023
... and so another series limps across the finish line. Sitcom finales are rather known for going maudlin on their final outing, and there's plenty of it here; the rest of it suggests they'd run out of jokes. Which admittedly they had, back in the third season, so I suppose little reason to be surprised. What should have been a series arc (new arrival - meet cute - date one/two/three - misunderstanding - makeup - marriage) was simply divided over two episodes, most of which went into the first one. So this episode is awkwardly stretched to cover the lack of actual material, and runs rather shallow as a consequence ... but hey: it does finish the series, and on a marriage no less. Plenty of jokes get replayed here, and at last the post-credits joke is resolved.
