Twilight and New Moon star Justin Chon's film 'Crossing Over' reviewed

21 June 2009 11:20 PM, PDT | From Twilight Examiner | See recent Twilight Examiner news

The Celebrity Cafe has caught a viewing of star The Twilight Saga: New Moon Justin Chon's newest film Crossing Over. Say they of Chon's performance, Justin Chon showed a great variety of emotions, too. He brought out the fear of his character, desperately struggling to maintain control of something. He can't handle being taken advantage of or outsmarted by natural-born Americans. This struggle to prove himself nearly becomes the death of him. Chon really displays his inner struggle, stuck between taking actions that will just be harmful to himself and everyone around him and taking everything back for a chance for his family to be a part of this country they have come to...

Spielberg has “Cracked the Story” of Indiana Jones 5

16 June 2009 5:24 PM, PDT | From newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news

The cast of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was in London yesterday attending the red carpet premiere (they get the sequel five days earlier over there).  Somewhere along the way the BBC got a small exclusive from Shia Labeouf about his future follow-ups.

In the short video interview, Labeouf talks a little about working with Michael Bay, who he calls the “best action director alive.”  Then he fields a two part question about his involvement in another Indiana Jones movie and Oliver Stone’s sequel to Wall Street.

According to Labeouf, Steven Spielberg has “cracked the story” for the next Indiana Jones installment, so as Shia says the next one seems to be “gearing up.”  Unfortunately, we don’t get much more than that from the kid who played Mutt, Jones’ vine-swinging sidekick in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.  Labeouf adds his excitement to work with

[DVD Review] Crossing Over

11 June 2009 10:11 PM, PDT | From JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news

Crossing Over begs the audience to take it seriously. It wants to make an impact on you so badly despite its hollow shell of a narrative. Obviously inspired by the immigration “crisis” which had the United States broiling with racial discomfort, Crossing Over tries to capitalize on all of the stirred emotions still floating about – only to find the waters cooled and tempers no longer quite so high. The audience the film needed in order to succeed no longer existed; its opportunistic theme staled before Harrison Ford’s laughably clichéd first lines of dialogue rolled out. Perhaps that’s why the film feels like a mixed bag of preaching and shock and awe instead of a rational argument for or against strict immigration control.

Crossing Over spends its time divided between five connected narratives and attempts to ply its messages of cultural integration, manipulation and corruption with each one. Max

Harrison Ford Named Highest Paid Actor by Forbes

10 June 2009 11:59 PM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

It was a good year for Harrison Ford. According to Forbes, the success of Indiana Jones and the Rest of the Awkward Title made him the best paid actor in show bidness in the year beginning June 1, 2008.

Because Ford's only other role during that time was in Crossing Over, a film that made $1 million around the world and probably didn't contribute much to his earnings, his $65 million haul over the 12-month span is just the truck backing up to his house with Indy Jones money. That's not all contract cash, and in fact, most of it is back-end points paid to him because of the film's near-$800 million global box office.

Adam Sandler won the silver medal with $55 million ane Will Smith was in third place, which isn't terribly surprising. However, Eddie Murphy still qualifies for a list like this? Uh-huh.

DVD’s I Bought This Week: June 9th

9 June 2009 12:00 PM, PDT | From FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news

Rob Hunter loves movies.  He also loves working as a professional hitman who targets women and children only because movies and books tell him they're an untapped niche market.  These two joys come together in the form of cash money payments that he receives every week and immediately uses to buy more DVDs.  So join us each week as he takes a look at new DVD releases and gives his highly unqualified opinion as to which titles are worth BUYing, which are better off as RENTals, and which should be AVOIDed at all costs. Click on any of the titles below to magically head over to Amazon.com and pick up the DVD. Gran Torino

In his last acting stint, Clint Eastwood dances behind and in front of the camera playing a racist Korean War vet who faces his prejudices after a Hmong teen tries to steal his beloved Gran Torino. James Rocchi said: "Gran Torino is, bluntly, a pretty good film -- sleek and brawny like the title car, but a little clumsy on the corners and with no small amount of knock in its dramatic engine." Rent it on DVD or Blu-ray.

A release date has not yet been announced, but a preorder has been made available at Amazon. Next, I previously listed The Soloist for DVD and Blu-ray from Paramount Home Entertainment, but have since been asked to remove the August 4 release date as it was apparently mistakenly added to the official release schedule. I will have an update once Paramount revises their schedule. Finally, Deadline Hollywood is reporting The Weinstein Company's recent financial troubles have caused the studio to relinquish the DVD and Blu-ray rights to Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds with co-distributor Universal Pictures now set to step in. And now, on with this week's releases.

This week on DVD, celebrate the big screen heroics of two former movie heroes (Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino, Harrison Ford in Crossing Over) or watch Clive Owen and Naomi Watts do battle with an evil bank (Tom Tykwer's The International). If comedy is more your style, you can go low-brow (the cheerleading comedy Fired Up!) or worse: direct to DVD (the bowling comedy Strike! starring Tara Reid). Happy 28th birthday to Twilight and New Moon star Justin Chon!

28 May 2009 9:01 PM, PDT | From Twilight Examiner | See recent Twilight Examiner news

Justin Chon, who portrays Eric Yorkie in Twilight and The Twilight Saga: New Moon has had an interesting last couple of years. Turning 28 today, the Twilight star portrays 17-year-old Eric in the series with charisma and unforseeable excellence. Having made his Hollywood name in short stints on television series such as Jack & Bobby, The O.C., and Just Jordan, Chon had been in a couple of films before as well. Playing small roles in films such as Taki & Luci, Puff, Puff, Pass, and Hack!, Chon was no stranger to the film set. But in 2008, when Justin Chon became Eric Yorkie in Catherine Hardwicke's Twilight, his big-screen experience become a little different. Since starring in Twilight, Chon has taken on roles in films like Balls Out: Gary The Tennis Coach and Crossing Over. Spotted nearing the set in Vancouver to reprise his role as Yorkie in Chris Weitz's The Twilight Saga: New Moon,

However, gone is the bulky packaging, and the set has been cut down to seven discs instead of ten, both details are fantastic news. As far as differences, the main absence is a 90-minute documentary called "Star Trek: Beyond the Final Frontier" and there isn't an included booklet of any kind. However, improved menus, on the fly switching between the enhanced versions and the original effects is an impressive addition even if you only check it out once or twice. Penn's Missing Movie Role Was 'Experimental'

22 March 2009 6:25 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Sean Penn has brushed off rumours he demanded his role in new movie Crossing Over be cut because he objected to a controversial scene in the film.

Penn shot scenes playing an enforcement agent in the drama, starring Harrison Ford and Ashley Judd.

When the film debuted in the U.S. this month without the actor, rumours swirled he was outraged by a controversial scene - where an Iranian woman believed to have dishonoured her family is killed by her brother - and demanded his role be cut.

Penn has brushed off the claims, insisting his part was never confirmed to make the final edit.

His spokesperson tells the New York Post, "Sean's portion of the film was somewhat experimental as it had a mystical quality that the rest of the film did not have. His not being in the final edit was a creative decision of which he was aware."

Did Sean Penn's sympathy for Iran's ayatollahs help cripple the box-office prospects of a recent Harvey Weinstein movie?

Sources say Penn, who traveled to Iran in 2005 and sent wordy dispatches to the San Francisco Chronicle, demanded to be removed from "Crossing Over" because he objected to an "honor killing" scene of an Iranian woman slain by her brother.

The Weinstein Company flick on the immigration issue, budgeted at $20 million, is a multi-plotted drama, like "Traffic" and "Crash," starring Harrison Ford and Ashley Judd. Although Penn shot scenes playing an enforcement agent,
