Railroad yardman Mike Richards is severely beaten when he refuses to continue making $10 weekly payments to Sandy and Ray, the operators of a "jobs for pay" protection racket. Dan Mathews and Sergeant Williams investigate, but they get no cooperation from Richards' frightened wife or his hotheaded stepbrother, Joe Mason. Mason is determined to expose the racket himself, but eventually finds himself beaten, bound, and gagged in Sandy's car. When Richards dies, his wife relents and tells Dan and Sergeant Williams about the "jobs for pay" racket. Aided by her information, they travel to the railroad yard and find themselves in a gun battle with Sandy and Ray, who have become desperate to avoid a murder charge.
