Swedish business consultant Kristian Norden leads an extremely regulated life, assisted faithfully by devoted private secretary Frans Vidmark. When the maid who normally manages the huge house must be replaced, Eva Sellgren, who just learned her kiosk is expropriated, pretends being sent by the temp agency and is hired. Franz is puzzled how much Kristian allows her to change. They clash when Kristian's teenage daughter Svenya is sent 'home' from boarding school due to a highly contagious infection and Eva decides to foster Svenya with her own son Rasmus and brat daughter Lisa. Kristian's city mistress is no longer content with rare visits.

Handsome Erik Virta arrives by sail yacht in a Swedish coastal town. The only landmark is medieval Gripsholm castle, where Helena Carlsson teaches ballet. Her daughter, workaholic chef Leonie, runs a nearby restaurant, but soon falls all the way for Erik's suave charms, but he also has a hidden agenda to snoop around both Carlsson homes. Helena is engaged to affluent local Gunnar Hansen, but never told Leonie that her father Anders Silander is alive. In fact he just arrived in town after serving jail time for the murder of Helena's father, which he didn't commit, and wants to meet Leonie. Tragically, both love affairs prove utterly incompatible.
