Doubt is a film adaptation of a 2004 play with the same name by American playwright John Patrick Shanley, who also directed the movie.

Plus, she tells Sister Aloysius (Meryl Streep) that he leaves at the end of June to go to high school, so whatever 'relationship' they were having would end at that time.
Since Shanley has a policy of not allowing his plays to be rewritten for the screen, the ending plays out exactly like the play...leaving it up to each viewer to decide.
