"Cowboy Five Seven" is a film sponsored by the US Air Force to drum up support for the Strategic Air Command (SAC). SAC's job was to keep bombers, like the B-52s in the film, in the air at all times in case of nuclear war. Unusually, it was shown both on "Schlitz Theater" AND "Lux Playhouse" back in 1959.
The documentary is introduced and narrated by Jimmy Stewart, which is fitting as he retired a general with the US Air Force and flew SAC missions.
The story, such as it is, is about the pilot of one of these huge planes commuting from work, flying his mission and returning, hopefully, in time to see his daughter at her first recital. During the course of the film, you see the various jobs done by this B-52 crew.
So is this something for you to watch? Maybe...maybe not. It's certainly of interest for its historical insight into the Cold War and can be found on YouTube at this time.
