Things are just about bear-able.

Glenn Morshower (so good in 24 and also known to fans of the Transformers movies now too) is the only face I recognised in this film full of disposable teens setting themselves up to become a meal for one hungry, and irritated, big bear.

The kids (ranging from a fascist to a rich boy, from a slutty gal to a "nice-but-dim" lass, etc) are all taking part in a community service scheme, clearing park trails of litter while decidedly not contemplating the error of their ways. And it just so happens that they've been taken to their first port of call by an escaped killer who couldn't control himself. Once everyone has been told the rules they will undoubtedly want to break it is up to Ranger Bob (Morshower) to keep them in line and in one piece. Oh, there's also that bear I mentioned earlier. Of course.

What we have here is a slick, poorly-acted (with one notable exception), unpretentious little horror that teases and entertains for most of it's running time before finally delivering some quality gore in a fun finale. You can see a lot of what's going to happen way ahead of time and there's nothing here that will either shock you or make you remember this film for years to come but it's all done with a good dose of humour and I have seen many, MANY movies worse than this one. It also helps to have a deliriously uber-cheesy song on the soundtrack that had my mate and I singing along to it. Such little things may be dubious highlights but highlights they still are.

See this if you like: Grizzly, Claws, Lake Placid.
