More Boxing than Blackie
3 July 2017 | by (Claremont,USA) – See all my reviews

Okay entry. Blackie doesn't have much to do. Instead, it's the two boxers Capper and Spoiler who carry the action. Seems big shot Bishop is outwardly respectable, but also has a dark side. Here he illegally owns both fighters who are scheduled to duke it out, except Bishop wants Spoiler to take a dive so that Capper's up and coming career is enhanced. Meanwhile, Mary's a good friend of Capper's wife who wants hubby to quit boxing and utilize his law degree. Thus Mary involves Blackie.

Movie vet Parnell really registers as slick businessman Bishop, more so than usual for this type role. Note too that Indrisano as Spoiler had a distinguished boxing career in the 20's and 30's. He's also a familiar face from literally hundreds of screen productions. The boxing set-ups are typical Hollywood with fighters throwing dramatic roundhouse punches unlike those in real matches. Anyway, Mary's pretty, Whitey's cute, while Farraday is Johnny-on-the-spot. Too bad Blackie hasn't more to do.
