9 July 2014 4:02 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Yesterday Marvel Studios released an extended look trailer for the upcoming Phase Two offering Guardians of the Galaxy, which included our first look at Michael Rooker (The Walking Dead) as Yondu, the intergalactic outlaw and surrogate father figure to Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill / Star-Lord. Now, Rooker has been discussing his character in an interview with USA Today, which also dropped two new images of the blue-skinned leader of the Ravagers….

“[Peter] is feeling lost, vulnerable, defeated, emotionally drained and hurt, and here is Yondu in this light coming down and brings him up into the spacecraft and takes him away,” states Rooker. “It might have been pretty horrific, but also a bit cool. [Yondu has] some interesting issues — not a good guy, not a bad guy. There’s hope and there’s a heart inside Yondu. It’s not so black and white — I should say blue and white. And I enjoy roles that are like that, »

Stalingrad director Fedor Bondarchuk to direct Odysseus

Russian filmmaker Fedor Bondarchuk (Stalingrad) has signed on to direct an adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey for Warner Bros. entitled Odysseus, which Deadline is describing as a “large scale epic”.

The Odyssey centres on the Greek hero Odysseus and his ten year journey home following the decade-long Trojan War. The script for Odysseus is being written by Jeremy Doner, whose credits include episodes of Damages and The Killing.

Stalingrad Helmer Fedor Bondarchuk Snags Warner Bros.’ Greek Epic Odysseus

2 July 2014 8:34 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

The first big-budget Russian blockbuster, WWII epic Stalingrad, was an absolutely stunning visual experience, and when it became the highest-grossing film in Russian cinematic history, it seemed pretty clear that we hadn’t heard the last of its director, Fedor Bondarchuk. Now, it appears that Warner Bros. has recruited the helmer to direct its big-budget Greek epic Odysseus, which aims to turn the classic tale transcribed in Homer’s The Odyssey into an action-packed spectacle.

Bondarchuk, the son of Oscar-winning helmer Sergei Bondarchuk (who received the Best Foreign Film Oscar for his movie War and Peace back in 1968), made Stalingrad for around $30 million, and the flick went on to gross $66 million, setting records in Russia. It was also the first Russian movie to be shot in IMAX 3D. Despite Stalingrad featuring a huge amount of battle sequences, Bondarchuk kept the budget low by staging everything without the use of green screen or extensive special effects, »

Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack revealed

2 July 2014 3:44 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

The marketing for James Gunn’s upcoming Marvel space epic Guardians of the Galaxy has relied heavily on a light, fun tone and beloved ’70s songs like “Hooked On A Feeling” and “Spirit In The Sky.”

The inclusion of the music in an intergalactic space adventure actually makes sense, considering the film’s protagonist Peter Quill, a.k.a. Star-Lord, grew up on Earth and was somehow taken into space as a young boy in the 1980s. We’ve seen several glimpses of Quill’s walkman and homemade mix tape, which serve as the primary inspiration for the actual film soundtrack.

The soundtrack cover can be seen above, while the newly released tracklist, which sports a host of iconic ’60s, ’70s and ’80s music, can be seen below:

1. Blue Swede – “Hooked on a Feeling”

2. Raspberries – “Go All the Way”

3. Norman Greenbaum – “Spirit in the Sky”

4. David Bowie – “Moonage Daydream”

James Gunn says Nathan Fillion’s Guardians of the Galaxy cameo could lead to larger role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

1 July 2014 2:41 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn must be regretted the decision to confirm that former Firefly star Nathan Fillion is set to cameo in the Marvel space opera; since then, he’s had to deny reports that Fillion will portray the characters of Nova and Cosmo, and now he’s reiterated those denials, as well as suggesting that the cameo could lead to bigger things in the Marvel Cinematic Universe further down the line:.

Nathan Fillion is not Nova. There’s so much bullshit on the internet. I woke up – first it’s ‘Nathan’s Nova!’, then there are articles all over saying Nathan’s Cosmo. It’s like, ‘What?!’ Nathan’s role is a very small cameo that I wanted to give to Nathan because I love working with him and I think it’s lucky for me to have Nathan in all of my movies. At the »

James Gunn shares his thoughts on putting the finishing touches to Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has taken to Facebook to reflect on his time working on Marvel’s space opera, as he puts the final touches to the film ahead of its impending release…

I swear, I’ve gotten angry with filmmakers like Ridley Scott and George Lucas who can’t let go of their old films and want to keep going back and offering up different versions, but I can easily see myself doing that now.

This is essentially my last week of actually making Guardians of the Galaxy. It’s been two years straight and I’ve starting to become terrified of actually having to Stop. But on July 7 I leave for Singapore to begin the press tour so I suppose I really have no choice.
